Washington Post review of 'School Daze'

snip

"School Daze," with its pompous patchwork plot, is an arrogant, humorless, sexist mess. Based on Lee's days at Atlanta's Morehouse College, it pits the light-skinned "Wannabees" against the dark-skinned "Jigaboos" at make-believe Mission College. It's a juvenile, yet controversial, treatment of an intricate intraracial conflict. Lee, who has condemned Whoopi Goldberg for her blue contact lenses and Michael Jackson for his nose job, seems obsessed by racial cosmetics.

snip

Then the nappy-haired coeds duel with their light sisters in a sudden musical number -- a "West Side Story"-style song-and-dance-off. Dap's lady Rachel Meadows (Kyme) leads the Jigaboos, and blue-eyed Jane Toussaint (Tisha Campbell) the Rays, in this processed hair-pulling contest. Toussaint, a slave to Gamma's Big Brother Almighty, is both adored and debased as Lee works out his id garbage onscreen. Ultimately, Big Brother gives her to the pledge Half-Pint (Lee) to be ravished. These characters are sexist, racist sadists and, yet, impossibly dull.

Imus mentioned ‘West Side Story’ in the Sharpton interview as well.

What in the hell is wrong with having a coach inspire young women be the best they can be? As a women this is exactly the kind of coach I would want for my daughter. Like the Bush haters who are incapable of sane thinking I believe the Jackson Sharpton detesters can’t see the injustice of Imus’s attack on these very young women.
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’

Exactly right. These comments were personal attacks on these young women along with the women on the Tennessee team, who should also feel insulted. After their biggest accomplishment in life, they were slammed with the most base, vile, aspersions, having nothing to do with their individual character. Imus is a typical lib bigot who lives in a shallow stereotypical world. He should pay for what he did, and the more he grovels, the more he pays.

How come the Tennessee women aren’t having a press conferences since Imus called them the ‘White wanna-bees’ to the Rutgers ‘Jiggaboos’
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’

You are correct. Tennessee women basketball players were equally demeaned by his liberal racial stereotypes. Both teams should make an issue of this. There are many blacks and whites who harbor stereotypes about women athletes. Especially basketball players.

I don’t get the sense that there are so many on this board who are applauding Imus; what’s disgusting for most and inexcuseable is to see a guy like Imus or any other for that matter, bend over and kow-tow to the likes of JJ and AS. Imus owes those girls and their families an apology—big time! And he should also reap the consequences of whatever action the networks and radio stations decide to take because of his inappropriate, inexcusable remarks. But to witness this phony outrage on the part of AS & JJ, and to see Imus grovel to those snakes in the grass, is beyond the pale for me, and I’m sure for many others on this board.

Heavy stuff??? It’s a joke... literally a joke - a tasteless, derogatory joke - but the same kind of joke Imus has been doing for 30 years. Why everybody is freaking out now is beyond me.”

This Imus/Rutgers thing was days old and no protests from Al or Jesse that I can find. Then, this past Friday Imus on his morning show insulted Hilary Clinton calling her a phony, evil and wicked.

How soon after Imus’s remarks about Hilary last Friday did this thing get “revved” up?

Imus got mugged by the Arkansas Mafia using their publicity-hungry mercenaries.

There is certainly there is a double standard when it comes to clowns like Jackson and Sharpton. But just because someone says or does something wrong and gets away with it doesn't mean that everyone should- we would be able to convict anyone for anything under that standard.

Imus said something deeply offensive, people have responded, he has apologized, been sanctioned by his employers, and now the targets of his venom have had their say. Hopefully this will be the end of this matter.

I'm beginning to think there might be something to that. He's been calling her "the devil" for a long time, but he has seemed to step it up lately.

It's quite possible she saw this as an opportunity to turn up the heat and fry him.

I don't see any other explanation why this one comment has drawn so much attention. I've heard him call everyone from Maureen Dawd to Andrea Mitchell a "ho" and worse. Derogatory insults are thrown out left and right on that show, but all of the sudden the PC Police freak out over this - it doesn't make sense.

She looks like an Amazon Lesbian. I guess that is true of many, many female athletes and coaches - and it ticks me off.

My niece played varsity tennis and volleyball, until the female coach started hitting on and flirting with her and team. Why is it that these sexual perverts are allowed to be in such positions of authority and control over minors? It is an outrage.

Here is the Rutgers team.

I agree with their coach that they are not "political figures" and should not be subjected to this. BUT - why the hell did the coach parade them as such and choose to hold this high profile press conference? Because the coach is trying to score PC points - that is why. That, plus the fact that she wants to seen as a "heroine" in the black community.

I also think that something else set off the activists. Imus called the Tennessee players "cute" by contrast to the tattooed Rutgers team.

Let’s hope this righteous indignation becomes directed at the biggest criminal of this particular crime: RAP MUSIC.

If this story didn't get any dumber than it has already, Dan Abrams blamed FOX News for all this nonsense, while he guest hosted Scarborough Country last night.

Do we know for sure who’s idea it was to hold the press conference? If Imus had gone directly to the team and did his first and ONLY apology to them, we would not be talking about this. The fact he went to Sharpton et al shows that he’s not really remorseful, just bad it blew up so badly.

People are forgiving...I truly believe that. But now it’s beyond the stage where that could really happen.

That I seriously doubt...if anything, the worst that would happen is he’d be slammed for penning them, but defended for his “right” to do so.
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’
He’d be slammed by his people, by the “hood”. He would loose credibility because he would be truthfully insulting all that is good in the community. He would be defended by the white liberals that s*ck rappers d*cks to purge their guilt. Rappers don’t write for “white mainstream” they write to make sense out of their upside down world.

That’s probably true, but I still think there’s a double standard.
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’

Agreed. But that standard is defined by white liberals, not by jackson and Sharpton. They are just dancing in the minstrel show like all the rest of us.
