I gave up on McCain back in the S&L debacle and have grimaced at each mis-step he has taken since. It is nice to see his own campaign finance ‘reform’ bill being show for the crock of crap that it is while he still pontificates about it.

McCain has more problems that just his position on the Iraqi war. His attempts to suppress the First Amendment aren't going to help him either:

McCain and 'the Constitution'

"I work in Washington and I know that money corrupts. And I and a lot of other people were trying to stop that corruption. Obviously, from what we've been seeing lately, we didn't complete the job. But I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected that has become corrupt. If I had my choice, I'd rather have the clean government."

Recall that McCain, under McCain-Feingold CFR, has tried two different times to restrict voters' rights:

FEC Won't Regulate Internet Politics

Posted 03/27/2006

The Federal Election Commission decided Monday that the nation's new campaign finance law will not apply to most political activity on the Internet. In a 6-0 vote, the commission decided to regulate only paid political ads placed on another person's Web site. The decision means that bloggers and online publications will not be covered by provisions of the new election law. Internet bloggers and individuals will therefore be able to use the Internet to attack or support federal candidates without running afoul of campaign spending and contribution limits. "It's a win, win, win," Commissioner Ellen L. Weintraub said, adding that...

McCain-Feingold's Electioneering Communication Prohibition Held Unconstitutional as Applied to Genuine Grassroots Lobbying

Posted on 12/21/2006

Today the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia held that the ban on corporate electioneering communications is unconstitutional as applied to the three grassroots lobbying ads for which Wisconsin Right to Life ("WRTL") sought judicial relief in WRTL v. FEC. Judge Leon wrote the opinion and was joined by Judge Sentelle in the majority of the three-judge court.

Look for more attempts by McCain, and possibly Hillary and Jon Carry, to restrict voters' rights and Internet use during the coming year.

McCain Looked into Caucusing with Democrats

Posted on 01/05/2007

Some of us have joked that McCain would be a great candidate--for the Democrat ticket. But it turns out that there is an element of truth to the joke. This month's Vanity Fair has a long fawning profile of McCain entitled Prisoners of Conscience. It says that the Bush-McCain relationship was so frayed after the 2000 election that in 2001, McCain strategist John Weaver actually sounded out Democratic Senate leaders about having McCain caucus with them. That would have given the Democrats control of the Senate.

Conservatives to Sen. McCain: Stop your efforts to limit political free speech

February 13, 2007 The Honorable John McCain United States Senate 241 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, D.C. 20510 Dear Senator McCain:      On behalf of millions of grassroots Americans represented by the organizations listed below, we write to express our stark opposition to any legislation that further curtails free political speech. Specifically, in a January 26, 2007 article published in The Politico, a top aide in your office announced that you will introduce legislation in the 110th Congress “to further clamp down on independent ‘527’ groups.”      The irony, of course, lies in the fact that the ‘527’ organizations you now...

Over the weekend, John McCain said in Iowa, "One of the things I would do, the first day I am President of the United States, is close Guantanamo Bay. I would close it and I would move those prisoners to Fort Leavenworth. It's become a symbol, which is very bad for America."

Goldberg, you are talking about a crazy man as if he were to be considered seriously as a candidate for president. Not only is he unacceptable, what with his support of “campaign finance reform” with a wild ass democrat, he displayed his mental state in a public place many years ago on television. I saw it and heard it. No way.

With the notable exception of Ron Paul, the war is the one issue where Republicans are all on the same page. McCain is certainly no standout on that issue.

We are not ignoring Senator McCain. We have paid attention to him for many years and have come to the conclusion that, despite his honorable and exemplary service to this country, his support of things such as McCain-Feingold, his barely controlled temper and penchant for self-aggrandizement are not things we want in a candidate. He’s a good man, we just don’t want to vote for him. That said, if it come’s down to him and Hillary or Obama, he will have my vote.

Not only is he unacceptable,

I used to think McCain was the absolute worst choice for Republicans, but thankfully Rudie JulieAnnie has proved me wrong by assuming that position. Rudee is worse than McPain.

It is glaringly obvious to 99% of this board that he has a snowball in hell’s chance of winning the nomination. That he keeps plugging away is just another indicator that he has serious problems in perceiving reality.

About sums it up for me.

Not only am I ignoring him, I am actively urging others to ignore him as well.

McCain is about as stable as a vile of nitro glycerin in Kobe Bryant's shorts.

Agreed. The McCain campaign is over, or so I sincerely hope. He’s too old, his health is questionable and he’s a fruitcake.

Notice that no one so far has actually addressed the article, which is a pretty well written. I have been pondering the question myself: it seems like many who swear to never vote for McCain because of breaking ranks with Republicans on Campaign Finance, etc., are considering a consistently pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-amnesty, pro-homosexual agenda candidate, who as I understand it, considers Ginsberg a good example of a justice.

I can understand and respect the opinion of the conservatives on this forum who dislike both candidates, but the ones who hate McCain, yet somehow become pragmatists with Giuliani (as if it’s too late to support a true conservative) really have me vexed.

So McCain is unacceptable to you because of CFR, but you are committed to Rudy Giuliani, who strongly supports McCain’s CFR and would continue it.

Why? Because Rudy is strong on the war and that’s all that matters?

That’s Jonah’s point. If you are going to throw everything else out that makes a conservative a conservative, simply to get someone who is strong on the war on terror, why not pick McCain rather than Rudy? On virtually every subject where McCain is “unacceptable”, Rudy holds the same positions.

And on many OTHER issues, McCain is much more acceptable than Rudy, like on cutting government spending, abortion, and the 2nd amendment.

And for every “crazy” speech you can find for McCain, we can find a similarly crazy speech by Rudy. Rudy has been a hot-head in his day.

But Rudy supporters should keep attacking other politicians for agreeing with their candidate on issues. Eventually everybody will realise that Rudy is wrong on the issues.
