RealID isn’t about security its about control.

I am amazed at those supposed conservatives that think its a good idea...but then again, those same people are NAFTA proponents too.

There was an old saying once that kind of relates to this.
I guess it’s out of vogue now.

“I’d rather die on my feet than live on my knees”

Sounds like you’re part of the knee group.

Put a sock in it. We have a difference of opinion about whether this will help and is worth doing. Don’t turn this into a matter of courage.

If you insist on doing so, I’ll return the favor. I could just as well say that you are willing to take chances with your fellow citizens’ lives, which is not manly at all, but rather self-indulgent. And there are less polite terms than that, my FRiend.

Why don’t we keep this rational and lay off the cheap Revolutionary War slogans.

Hey, you’re the one that tried to skew the argument with emotional pleas about 911.

And considering there are literally millions of people in this country who are not even citizens and have no legitimate ID whatsoever, then clamping down on me isn’t gonna make U S of A any damn safer at all.

Tyranny ALWAYS starts with “We’re doing this for your own good...”

And I’m glad to know you have such a low opinion of revolutionary war slogans. I’ll remember that.

Oh wait, they went with the people who decided to nationalize Airport Security so instead of do-nothing employees making $12 an hour they became government employees making much much more and doing the same crappy job (since the people remained the same)

I think the smart way to go would be for government to implant a permanent chip containing all personal information in everybody’s cheekbone. This chip could be read like a car going through an automated turnpike tollbooth. This way you could do all your shopping, for example, and payment would be automatically deducted from your government credit account as you walk out of the store!

All income would be automatically added to your government credit account and we could live in a cashless society! Taxes would also be automatically deducted and you would never have to write a check.

Likewise, you could board a plane without breaking stride (provided you are not on some kind of watch list or otherwise wanted for questioning by the authorities) and even such things as season tickets to the Phillies could be paperless.

Additionally, the government could track where everybody is at any given moment so you could never get lost!

Your brain-dead approach to this is probably indicative of the image you present to non-conservatives.

So, do the rest of us a favor and don’t call yourself a conservative. You do, however, have my permission to call yourself a third-party sorehead who likes to spout off about being a worthy successor to the patriots of ‘76.

In short, tell ‘em you’re not a real patriot, but you play one on TV.

By all means, volunteer to remove them. At least we'll be rid of one more statist, and you'll get the enlightening (albeit brief) experience of finding out that Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys weren't just a fluke.

Their descendants left the place. Today’s Vermont is nothing like it was “way back when”.

Yes, and it will end when a state government informs the federal government that such threats will result in the confinscation of all federal taxes revenues collected in the state, and the diversion of said federal revenue to state coffers. The federal government simply does not have the ability to deal with such a senerio. The courts certainly do not, as enforcement is a function of the executive branch.

i may be mistaken on the particulars, but i believe that the state of Vermont once made such a threat over some federal initative...and the feds backed down.

Someone really needs to tell the guys in Texas this. Oh, and repeal that damned 17th amendment while we're at it.

Of course it is. It is almost exactly as it was "way back when". Vermonters are known contrarians who usually defy classification. A wack job governor like Howard Dean reduces and balances a state budget. The last time you saw a Rat doing that was...when?

Stop spouting nonsense.

YES But VISA is not in government hands and would require a court order to get released. It also only covers that portion of your life you allow it to.

Don’t use the Visa card and there is only a record as you allow it to be built. Use the card, enter into the data base. No use, no records Do you think the government will be that kind? They will want an entry for everything you do and what ever else some low level hack decides they need to collect..

The more they collect the more job security for another government hack.

So long to State’s Rights. There’s not much left of ‘em and cutting off Highway Funds which belong to the people of their respective states to begin with is the stuff wars have been fought over.
My GGF did just that in the Late Unpleasantnee of 1861-1865. I’m just about to the point that I’m ready to follow his lead and try it one more time. (Maybe we’ll git it right this next go round).

It’s not just Congress that does this to the states. The states routinely do it to counties and cities. Money usually comes with conditions, a point which most children learn when they get their first allowance.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

The courts are, of course, OWNED by the government.

While I understand your point that “He who pays the fiddler calls the tune” I think it is not applicable in this particular case. Afterall, it’s the people’s money. Not the Federal Government’s money.
The Federal Highway money is merely a giant money laundering scheme. The government takes the money from the people via gasoline and other taxes, gathers it in Washington, spends tons of it on “administrattion, planning and other expenses and then doles it back to the states as it sees fit. Some states are winners and others are losers.
The point I’m trying to make is that these taxes and highway construction and maintenence should be the responsiblity of the States in the first place.
The present system reads like this: The Government takes your money at gunpoint and then says if you’ll be good little boys and girls, I might give you some of it back.
This is a ludicrous situation and is rife with abuse (such as the 55 mph speed limit mandate you previously mentioned).
If we can’t get a handle on the abuse of Federal power and reimpose some limitations on that power we’re finished as a “Free Republic”.

Montana's Governor just signed a bill defying Real ID:

Gov. Brian Schweitzer said "no, nope, no way, hell no" Tuesday to national driver's licenses, signing into law a bill supporters say is one of the strongest rejections to the federal plan.

The move means the state won't comply with the Real ID Act, a federal law that sets a national standard for driver's licenses and requires states to link their record-keeping systems to national databases...

"We also don't think that bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., ought to tell us that if we're going to get on a plane we have to carry their card, so when it's scanned through they know where you went, when you got there and when you came home," said Schweitzer, a Democrat.

"This is still a free country and there are no freer people than the people that we have in Montana." The federal government has never been popular with Montanans. The federal Patriot Act was a common whipping boy on the campaign trail last year, and lawmakers from both sides of the aisle lined up this year against the Real ID Act.

Maybe a Democrat Governor, but he sounds fairly Conservative.
