If Imus had to apologize to every person who has ever been insulted on his show, he'd be spending the next 20 years doing it.
People who have never seen/heard his show probably don't realize that Imus himself is the #1 target of insults on the show -- from both his employees AND his guests.

They either don’t admit watching or they are using mental telepathy.

It may be blurry and indistinct, it may unfair, unjust, or inequitable---but there is a line and he crossed it.

That’s the thing. His whole act is that he is a grumpy old misanthrope. He doesn’t discriminate.. he acts like he hates everyone and insults everyone and everything, including little children and cute puppydogs. Normally his guns are trained on the rich and powerful. Those insults are sometimes funny, sometimes not, but the rich and powerful can take it. It was just cheap to attack the appearance and chastity of some college kids in such a public way. And these were specific kids he was talking about.
I don’t listen very much, Does anyone here remember what his take was on the Michael Richards thing, especially regarding the grovelling apologies?
