I agree, this is not about political correctness. It is about being insulting an inappropriate by using a racist insult. And what is the context for calling them nappy headed ho’s—other than them baeing black and being women?

It ws political correctness run amok when Rush tried to make a point about race being a part of the way a black quarterback was treated, or when Howard Cosell was criticized for calling a black athlete a monkey, when he had actually been using that term to refer to any fast running person. To label this Imus stuff as political correctness run amok is not accurate.

See, I don't think this was a political correctness issue or a free speech issue.

Free speech - Imus' employer has every right to restrict his speech just like my employer has the right to restrict mine. An employer is not Congress and it is Congress who is the subject of the free issue clause.

Political Correctness - what Imus said was beyond the pale. I realize that's his gig, but he walked that razor sharp sword and it finally cut him. What he said was racist. You can't get around that. And no, it is not about what others do and get away with, which these threads usually degenerate into. (Did your mother ever let you get away with that excuse.)

Imus - he compounded the problem when he reacted to Sharpton. Imus alone legitimized Sharpton. Why? Cause Imus knew he was wrong and was back pedaling as fast as he could. I don't like Imus but I would respected a whole lot more if he apologized (for only Rutger girls were offended) and moved on.

If I were Imus, I'd apologize by saying that after meeting the team, he realized that their hair wasn't as nappy as he first imagined.

ROTFLMAO! You've got my kind of humor!

Nope, Selected racist comments from Al S. and Jesse J. with cameos from Tawanna? (Iwanna) and Jesse’s Ho’s!

They're going to run Al S. and JJ's apologies to the DUKE Lacrosse players who were falsely charged with rape/assault/etc.

He should’ve made fun of the Heimys instead.

Imus is the only public figure caught in this type of stupid statement that actually HAS apologized. No, “if anyone feels bad about what I said” type of apology. He said he was wrong and is going to personally meet with the team and ask for their forgiveness which they have no obligation to give. He is the only public figure I can remember who even knows the difference between offering an apology and asking for forgiveness. I’ve been greatly impressed at his response to this.

Imus is such a flaming liberal that’s it’s actually kind of funny watching him dance. Al Sharpton is a Joke, with a capital “J”. It is TRAGIC that this man is allowed to make a judgement against Imus’ statement. How many different ways can we say Tawana Brawley (sp)? This whole incident has been totally blown out of proportion and Sharpton and those of his ilk will NEVER be satisfied. They want their blood and by God, they’re going to get it.

I tend to agree with you, carton. An employee has the right to decide what is and what is not acceptable language for his/her employees. Standards are not the same thing as censorship. (Although, 'standards' should have had Imus suspended before this, IMO).

I find it disturbing how many find Imus' comments acceptable, or even amusing.

But it points to the degradation of our culture that comments that are indeed 'beyond the pale' are so widely accepted.

I, however, believe that ABC is negligent and irresponsible for letting Rosie O'Donnell get away with her anti-Christian rants. She should have been fired by her employers a long time ago.

There IS a double standard.

it’s about consistency. Rappers can’t stop calling African American women whores. Al Sharpton is one of the biggest racists in the country. Jesse Jackson is not far behind.

This phony outrage is a crock. It is beyond stupid.

Remember Imus and company making fun of Condi's hair...showing images of her and Sharpton, comparing the two hair styles. Where was all the outrage from Shakedown JJ and AS when that was going on? Oh, I see...Condi's not "one of them" so that made it okay.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not defending Imus--I'm just so sick of the race-baiting AS and JJ, and it makes me sick to see ANYBODY kow-tow to the likes of those two creeps.

I agree. Apologize to the Rutgers team. They either forgive him or not... and move on.

Take his suspension like a man and come back in two weeks and do your job.

I still won't listen to him though.

Life is full of double standards.

I also find it disturbing that many find Imus' comments acceptable or amusing.

If I were ABC, I would have never hired Rosie... but Rosie's time is coming. She is also walking dangerously close to the edge of her own fine razor sharp sword. She will get cut to pieces on it.

Those are bad, too.

Let’s hold EVERYBODY to the same standard, not lower the standard.

Oh, I know life is full of double standards...........but the one that allows 'hate speech' as long as it's directed at Christians is particularly disturbing.

I completely agree that Rosie's days are numbered. And she is a miserable wretch of a human being who needs to be pitied.....and prayed for.

Yep.

But Condi is fair game throughout the “black community”.

I was watching BET during February, just for shits and giggles. Better than Comedy Central.

They had a show about the top ten bad things that happened to black people. I’m not kidding.

“Ignorance” was one of the things they brought up and then a black comedian (Paul nobody) says “Do ya feel me, Condi?”, implying that the educated and accomplished SecState was somehow “ignorant” and part of the problem.

I was angry, but I was white (still am, actually) so my opinion didn’t count.

Imus’ issue is with the women he insulted and not race hustling poverety pimps like Jesse Jagoff and Big Al. He was stupid to go on Al’s show.

See, I don't think this was a political correctness issue or a free speech issue.

Well, yes to the PC and no to the free speech.

Apparently, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and QUACKS like a duck, it gets suspended. All Imus did is what Imus always does.

Haven't seen anything this PC or silly since the Fuzzy/K-Mart/Tiger incident.

I saw a couple of the B’ball players referred to by Imus. I think he owes all “nappy haired ho’s” an apology.
