The second bill before me, Introductory Number 480-A, sponsored by Council Member Koslowitz and 23 of her colleagues at the request of Manhattan Borough President Fields, would amend the Administrative Code of the City of New York in relation to toy and imitation firearms. This legislation seeks to better ensure that imitation firearms are not mistaken for actual weapons. Specifically, this bill would prohibit the sale, use or possession of any toy or imitation firearm that is not either constructed entirely of transparent or translucent materials or designed in bright, distinct colors. The bill requires that barrels of imitation firearms be sealed and the name of the toy's manufacturer be legibly stamped on the imitation firearm. Furthermore, the sale, possession and use of toy or imitation firearms with laser pointers would be prohibited. Violators would face up to $1,000 in civil fines as well as criminal penalties of up to $1,000 and/or up to one year in prison.
The dangers of imitation firearms are well known, and the City has regulated their sale and possession since 1955. However, over the years, there have been incidents where children's toys have been confused for deadly weapons. In a time when it is not uncommon to hear of young people using real firearms to commit violent crimes, it is essential that we help law enforcement to delineate between real threats and harmless toys. By making the law's requirements regarding the sale and possession of imitation firearms stronger and clearer, this bill has the potential to save lives.

yesterday my friend was telling me a story about a feminist he knew who only let her little boy play with dolls. he didn’t believe her so she took him up to the little boys room to show him. the little boy was holding one doll like a pistol and making “bang, bang” sounds and “shooting” the other little doll who was in “death throes”.
he just laughed. she was aghast. he told her “toys aside, little boys will be little boys !”
I had to share that !
