Britain bans military sales of stories [British MoD reverse decision]

Britain on Monday banned all military service members from talking to the media in return for payment, a day after it said the 15 marines and sailors who were held captive in Iran could sell their stories.

Defense Secretary Des Browne issued a statement saying the navy faced a "very tough call" over its initial decision to allow the payments. The new ban will not affect any of the 15 service members held captive in Iran who already given accounts, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.

On Monday, in one of the first accounts, Faye Turney, the sole woman in the detained crew, said that she "felt like a traitor" for agreeing to her captors' demands to appear on Iranian TV and that she believed they had measured her for a coffin.

The Sun newspaper also reported that Turney, 25, was told by her captors that her 14 male colleagues had been released while she alone was being held.

Another sailor, Arthur Batchelor, 20, said he was singled out by his captors because he was the youngest of the crew.

The financial arrangements for Turney and Batchelor were not disclosed, but Turney said the offer she accepted was not the largest she had been offered.

So those who acted fast to grab the money are fine, but the rest are out of luck.

They have certainly gotten themselves in a mess over this.

Now if they’d just reverse course on allowing their commanders to defend their forces without a “Mother May I” slip from Whitehall.... or at least issue the slip when requested.

No wonder why these sailors were taken hostage. Nobody in the upper chain of command seems to be able to make a decision.

So the 15 cowardly lions are permitted to profit but no one else?

I don’t think it was 15. it was more like 12 and 3 others not so complying.

There has been an outcry in Britain over the decision to allow these serving members of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines to sell their stories. Obviously the MOD got the message.

What an astute and well explained observation.

Just proves the old saying that it is better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.

That's what happens when you act like a traitor.

This whole incident is like a Monty Python skit.
Is this really true? Did these events happen? Pinch me, this is so absurd the whole affair must be a dream.

UK is completely paralyzed by P.C., right down to its military.

This comes as no surprise this is how it went down. Iran should of just taken the main ship as well. Given the British’s military’s rules of engagement, Iran could take the entire British Navy hostage with one inflatible row boat.

Don’t throw them all in. One of the sailors said he wouldn’t profit off this and if the media was willing to pay him for his story, the money would be donated to charity.
I bet he was one of the ones who refused to shake Iamjihadmad’s hand.

Whilst they are at correcting this folly the Brain Trust at the MoD should also give some of these men on the right some generous promotions.
