“My guess is that it will include mentioning the 18,000 illegals just arrested in a massive sting operation in San Diego.”
That equals 6 days of illegal immigration. What about the other 359 days? : )

You nailed it. We don’t need new laws. We just have to enforce the ones we have.

I agree with you!
Bush still wants us to believe that any Mexican is going to live here "temporarily"???
How we going to find and deport them?
Here comes the "melting pot" part of his appeal for CIR.
He's basically telling the Mexicans "it's important NOT to give up no matter how hard it looks from a legislative perspective".

I agree. I’ve looked at this different ways- tried to keep an open and fair mind on the issue.
I love our president. I thoroughly and completely disagree with his policy on this massive crisis.
(BTW- good to see you posting again:)

Bush is a chimera - from hero in Afghanistan and Iraq to a border selling, Mexican pandering sell-out on illegal invaders.
A Bush couldn’t get elected to national office as dig-catcher after this man’s term.
HE will be rememebed NOT for victory in Afghanistan, NOT for driving out Saddam, but for selling his country, his language, and his culture down the river to a mob of third world invaders and their treasonous exploiters.

Agreed. Anything that does not have an implicit cease and desist (leave the country and don’t violate our immigration laws again) is an amnesty.

MY post #126:
Let's see. Bush will pay lip service to enforcement. He will say that his program is not amnesty and that the "undocumented workers" will have to get to the back of the line in terms of a path to citizenship. He will say we need a guest worker program. Finally, he will mention that we are a nation of immigrants and that our history has been one of welcoming people to our shores.
AMNESTY NO MATTER HOW MUCH LIPSTICK HE TRIES TO PUT ON THIS PIG.
Did I call it or not?

We need to plug the border before making a new guest worker program so we don’t creat another giant sucking sound of mexicans flooding in to take advantage of l’amnestia. The obvious compromise is to have a bill that both enforces the border and creates a new GW program, but I don’t think many of us really believe they would enforce it, that’s why we insist on enforcement first.

I suspect & expect that by the presidential election cycle next year, Americans will be so fed up with the Bush administration that whoever is running for POTUS will have to address & be adamantly AGAINST ANY kind of amnesty until the borders are secured and illegals are deported!

Just the fact that you're making assumptions about people based on their screen name is silly enough for me to not take you seriously.
You inferred that I don't respect Bush or Reagan based on absolutely nothing but the fact that I disagree with Bush on immigration or perhaps because I have Reagan in my screen name which is absurd. Stop judging me when you know nothing about me. I voted for Bush twice so I'm not a Bush hater but I don't think he's perfect either and I will continue to point out my disagreements with his policies.

There is no way that enforcement and securing our borders have to be linked to a "comprehensive" immigration reform package. The first priority has to be securing our borders. It has been almost six years since 9/11. And the question remains, how are you going to enforce these new rules when we have proven to be so ineffectual at enforcing the existing ones?
If you compare the 2006 Senate bill with the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli bill, it is remarkable how much of the language is the same.
