Glad you asked...
In this politician's area - San Jose, CA, we have a relatively new, extensive, expensive and grossly under utilized light rail system that criss crosses the city EMPTY.
Each train, consisting of several cars is usually carrying no more than a few riders in each car... Many times these are the homeless or drunks using the train as a "home on wheels" or a safe place to sleep.
Due to under utilization by the public, each rider is STILL subsidized by the taxpayer for the bulk of the cost of running the damned system.......which runs from nowhere to nowhere else.

Sad to say ... the Big Apple is way ahead of the Big Orange in this regard.
Don’t forget the empty transit buses that traverse the county and rarely have more than a handful of people. I tried to find public transportation for my son to go from Campbell to a class by the SJ airport (10 minute drive) The most direct route involved a bus to Mt View, 2 light rails transfers and it took at least an hour and a half (not to mention it would have cost $6/day).
So nice to see our tax $$$ at work!!
Pretty much the definition of mass transit. Goes from where you aren't to where you don't want to go, and carries people with whom you wouldn't voluntarily associate.
