I saw a little bit of Norm Coleman earlier.
He and Sen. Isaakson have co-sponsored an alternate bill...SR.40 (I think).
I heard Sen. Coburn speak on it...their bill would allow for stem cells from each person to use their OWN stem cells.
Coburn pointed out that any time a “cure” would be made from the embryonic stem cells of anyone...the “patient” would be required to take anti-rejection drugs for their whole lives...just like transplant patients do now..
But, if we use our own cells...we don’t.
THAT isn’t going to answer the show problem...but I THINK there may be a vote this afternoon on the Coleman/Issackson bill..
I have to admit to being in and out on the Senate coverage..so I may be wrong about a vote...AND about the bill (there could be more aspects I missed hearing about).
The President is willing to sign Isakson’s bill and will veto the other one, so if they want research to proceed, they would be well advised to vote for Isakson’s offering.
