Senate & House Coverage -- (April, 2007)
thomas.loc.gov ^ | April, 2007

Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!

.

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and we will try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let us know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,

Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats

And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

Hey Kerry .. you’re rich

Take the money that you are not being taxed and invest it in embryonic stem cell research

I’m sure between all the Million and Billionaires in the Senate .. they could pool their money together and start their own Pharmaceutical Company

Harry said that they would be voting on S. 5 at 5:30 EDT tonight..and then S. 30, after that.

S. 5...is the BOO,HISS one...S. 30 is the Coleman/Isaakson one that Pres. Bush said he would go along with.

That one would use embryonic stem cells that would be determined to NOT be able to produce a viable fetus.

Sen. Coburn explained it yesterday..and he made it sound so simple...

Of course then Harkin got up and complained that Pres. Bush is trying to be the moral determiner...not, noting that they are also doing that..but at least Prs. Bush isn’t asking taxpayers to pay for the killing of babies.

I thought it was the reverse.

As usual, Hatch argues his case well, although I don't agree with him on this one.

Were you watching yesterday afternoon when Sen. CAAB was up speaking??

He was having a colliquy with Brownback, I believe...and he went into a long explanation about the 2 different bills...and why he was going to vote for the one that Brownback was backing...but, he said, “that is why I am going to vote for S. 5, instead of S. 30.....wait, no, I will not be voting for S. 30..but FOR S. 5....no, that isn’t right either...(talks to his aide)...okay, I WILL be backing the S. 30 Republican substitute, not the S. 5...bill..(laughs)..

It was so funny....but, now that you said it is S. 30 that is the BOO, HISS...I AM NOW confused....yikes! LOL

Here is the what our family discussed the other day...kaybugs has Type 1 diabetes...she was diagnosed at 5, two years ago.

Now...even IF it required FEDERAL funding of embryonic stem cell research (btw, we all agreed we don’t like ANY embryonic stem cell research if it destroys viable embryos)...we would NOT want that to happen, because kaybugs herself, or the itty bitty one, COULD have been that destroyed embryo.

When I think of my life without having had kaybugs or the itty bitty one in it...it is just not the one I want to live in.

She takes her disease quite well...it hasn’t stopped her from being a cheerleader, swimmer...great student and fun kid!

ALSO...everyone seems to forget that the ESC research HASN’T resulted in ANY cures...not like the ones on other stem cells from other sources.

I am very disappointed in Orrin Hatch on this one...Specter I undertand.

I worry that I talk about them too much...I apolgize if I do...but, so much of what is discussed here on FR does affect them..but, mostly it affects MY attitude toward the future, FOR them.
