Skeptics, supporters show up for seminar on global warmimg (Al Gore evangelist)

Shorten your showers by a minute, switch to energy efficient light bulbs and keep your tires inflated properly, and you can help slow global warming.

Those were just some of the tips that Lance Simmens, an activist for Tennessee-based nonprofit The Climate Project suggested to a crowd of about 60 people at the West York Area Middle School last night for a global warming seminar.........

The seminar was co-hosted by State Reps. Eugene Depasquale D-West Manchester Township and Beverly Mackereth R-Spring Grove, in an effort to educate residents about climate change and let them make up their own minds about whether it is a problem.

Much of the message Simmens shared last night was based on the former Vice President Al Gore's Academy Award-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," and pointed to pollution from automobiles and the destruction of the world's rain forests as part of the cause behind climate changes on Earth.......

Simmens said the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluded in a report released earlier this year that there is a 90 percent certainty that global warming is occurring and that humans are to blame......

Tim Page, an electrician from York City who attended the seminar, said he thought Simmens' presentation was enlightening.....

"I have a lot of skepticism about the whole thing," said George Figdore of Shiloh.

Figdore said he thinks Gore has a financial interest in promoting the message.... and he thought some of Simmens' presentation was skewed.

"The carbon dioxide problem is being shot way out of what is the truth....."

DePasquale, a member of the State House of Representatives Committee on Environmental Resources, said the point of last night's seminar was to present people with science-based information about global warming, and to let them decide for themselves......

This is part of our local contribution to the global warming scare.

The article promoting this "seminar" is at this link

The speaker it turns out has a paying job working for Ed Rendell.

See him at this link: http://governor.state.pa.us/governor/cwp/view.asp?a=1110&q=438245

The set-up story mentions legislation pending in Harrisburg making this sound very much more political than environmental.

... keep your tires inflated properly, and you can help slow global warming.

Since I don't mind running on over-inflated tires, I am willing to sell carbon credits to anyone who wants to run under-inflated tires.

I wonder what the liberals are going to do to reduce THEIR contribution to global warming? Use less electricity? Drive a smaller car? Stop jetting around the country holding *benefits*? Do ANY of the stuff they insist we peons do?

A few years ago I worked with an old codger who loved fishing and swore by the weather almanac. We planned a trip on my day off. He checked the almanac and found it would not be a good day to fish but we would go anyway. We caught 14 really nice speckled trout. I reminded him of the almanac's prognosis. He said if the almanac would have said it was a good day to fish, we would have caught 10 times the amount of fish.

The global warming clan will have excuses for any weather deviation.
