Giuliani Says Nation at War Requires Him
NY Times ^ | April 7, 2007 | MARC SANTORA

Posted on 04/08/2007 4:32:02 PM PDT by FairOpinion

"What they say in Washington is not going to affect the fact that there are terrorists around the world that are planning to come here and kill us," he said in Iowa, in the most spirited part of his newly honed stump speech.

Pointing his finger and bouncing up and down on his toes, he declared, "It is something I understand better than anyone else running for president."

H said, it is time to eliminate the estate tax and vastly simplify the tax code.

But it was the Iraq war and efforts against terrorism on which he was most impassioned.

And speaking at a high school in St. Petersburg, Fla., he maintained that the struggle would be over only "hen they stop planning to come here and kill us."

The crowd loved it. "Go get'em, Rudy!" one man shouted.

Mr. Giuliani spoke of what else he means when he says America needs to be on the offensive against terrorism. He would resist efforts to water down central provisions of the USA Patriot Act. He favors legal but aggressive eavesdropping. He backs intense interrogation of suspects, though not torture.

What are his qualifications for dealing with foreign policy matters? He cited his experience as mayor of an international city, and recalled that he had once kicked Yasir Arafat out of a United Nations celebration at Lincoln Center on the ground that he was a terrorist.

“Giuliani Says Nation at War Requires Him”

He must’ve been a great general who won great votories for America in some past war. Just can’t quite put my finger on exactly which war that was.

Well, Rudy certainly doesn’t lack the overbearing arrogance so common to big city mayors.

Or is it sign of a deeper mental disorder?

“Giuliani had been turned down in his bid to obtain an occupational deferment for his work as a law clerk before the judge wrote to the draft board in 1968, the newspaper said.

“Spokesman for the Republican mayoral candidate told the Post such occupational deferments were routine, but experts informed the paper they were almost never granted to law clerks.”

United Press International, June 11, 1989

Judge MacMahon wrote a letter for all the clerks in his office. As other judges – they all did it.

But former Manhattan federal Judge Marvin E. Frankel, who was on the bench during the Vietnam era, flatly contradicted Perkins.

“Not by any means was a law clerk automatically deferred,” he said. “I don’t remember ever writing a letter for any of my clerks.”

Asked if it was common practice for federal judges to write letters to draft boards for their law clerks, Judge Frankel said:

“Not so far as I know.”

New York Post, June 11, 1989

“But more than a dozen draft experts and lawyers knowledgeable on the Vietnam-era draft told The Post an occupational deferment for a law clerk in 1969 was almost unheard of.

“One leader of a veteran’s group called it a ‘one in a million’ occurrence.”

New York Post, June 11, 1989

"Giuliani Says Nation at War Requires Him"

Last time the Nation was at war and required his presence Rudy took a pass. This time, I'll take a pass on Rudy.

He said, it is time to eliminate the estate tax and vastly simplify the tax code.

Long, long past time. The GOP controlled both the executive and leglislative branch these past six years and didn't get it done. Looks bleak on that front.

"He has the leadership and the guts we need to WIN the War on Terror."

He's a gun-grabbing, abortionist, homosexual activist, illegal immigrant amnesty supporting, liberal scumbag.

Mr. Giuliani criticized Mr. Pataki’s proposal to cut taxes as “a shell game” that would hurt everyone in the state…

for the majority of americans, 9-11 is a distant memory. in fact, Rudy is the absolute last politician in the USA, to which the public will accrue any positive political opinion upon regarding 9-11.

Rudy is a shoot from the lip RINO who has no business getting the GOP nomination. “....overbearing arrogance...big city mayors” suits him to a “T.” Can you imagine what the reaction will be when Mayor Bloomberg decides he’ll run too? If anything would make me change to Rudy, that would be it.

Rudy needs to get over himself. What exactly did he do on 9-11 that was so spectacular?
