April 7, 2007 — A Rhode Island public school has decided the Easter bunny is too Christian and renamed him Peter Rabbit, and a state legislator is so hopping mad he has introduced an "Easter Bunny Act" to save the bunny's good name.

"Like many Rhode Islanders I'm quite frustrated … by people trying to change traditions that we've held in this country for 150 years, like the Easter bunny," Rhode Island State Rep. Richard Singleton told "Good Morning America Weekend Edition."

This is almost laugh out loud funny. The Easter Bunny is too Christian?

http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/ostara.html
“Christians still attach the name of a heathen goddess to their most sacred holiday: Easter or Ostern.”

“In addition to the name, other popular Easter customs also have heathen origins:

“The belief in the curative properties of water drawn early on Easter morning. These beliefs were common in Germany into the nineteenth century.

“The veneration (if now only playful) of rabbits and hares.

“The decoration of eggs (obvious fertility symbols).”

But I can get that people might object to schools promoting a pagan religion. I mean, they’re not allowed to promote Christianity. Fair is fair.

I wonder if the gel-haired morons at Google will bother to put up an Easter graphic on the home page. I’m on the site now, it’s technically Easter on the east coast (MA) and no dice. Funny, they advertise every commie holiday, must be a glitch in the programming?

“A Rhode Island public school has decided”

How about truth in reporting, for once.

One atheist on the Rhode Island public school board has decided, so that no one is “offended” even though there were no complaints, and everyone else kept their mouth shut for some reason.

You beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing. Since when is a rabbit that hides colored eggs and brings chocolat in the middle of the night a christian tradition?

“This whole thing is just rubbish. There’s no rabbit in connection with the Resurrection.”

Agreed. Easter is never mentioned in the Bible, nor is any Holy Day associated with the resurrection.

Easter was a pagan invention to distract from the real Holy Day of the season - Passover.

Exodus 12
The Passover
1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2 “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. 3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb [a] for his family, one for each household. 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. 5 The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. 8 That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. 9 Do not eat the meat raw or cooked in water, but roast it over the fire—head, legs and inner parts. 10 Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. 11 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.

12 “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

14 “This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD -a lasting ordinance.

No, where it was designed to fit a rabbit!

The Easter Bunny has zero to do with Christianity anyway.

My first thought was that someone was taking their South Park love a little too far. But sadly this person is probably all too serious.

Here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,
Hippity, hoppity,
Easter’s on its way.

Bringin’ every girl and boy Baskets full of Easter joy,
Things to make your Easter bright and gay.
He’s got jelly beans for Tommy,
Colored eggs for sister Sue,
There’s an orchid for your Mommy
And an Easter bonnet, too.

Oh! here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,
Hippity hoppity,
Happy Easter day.

Here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,
Look at him stop,
and listen to him say:
“Try to do the things you should.”
Maybe if you’re extra good,
He’ll roll lots of Easter eggs your way.

You’ll wake up on Easter morning
And you’ll know that he was there
When you find those choc’late bunnies
That he’s hiding ev’rywhere.

Oh! here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,
Hippity hoppity,
Happy Easter day.

Bunnies have nothing to do with the real meaning of Easter.

That is true, but getting rid of anything resembling Christianity (Easter) is a sign of Christophobia.

It’s the Pansynazification of Amerika.

BTW, somebody needs to make a “Liberals fail at common sense” site on YTMND with the Price Is Right losing horns.
