Unions are not illegal. Hiring of illegal workers, witness tampering and harrassment is illegal. So, what’s your point?

"Union thug."

"Current Mohawk employee Christina Martinez claims HR officials and her direct supervisor told her she would be fired if she enquired about workers’ legal status or read articles about the cases."

HR using Union thug tactics. Ought to be criminal.

Have you even been following this case at all?

As for Mohawk not being at fault because they hired through a 3rd party, please read the brief, available by clicking this link http://www.usdoj.gov/osg/briefs/2005/3mer/1ami/2005-0465.mer.ami.html . Read #2 under “Statement”. It states that Mohawk is being sued because they conspired with said 3rd party to hire illegal immigrants and Mohawk employees provided false social security numbers and documentation for the illegal immigrants when needed.

You both are so far off base with this... Do you live in this region? Do you work for this company? Do you do ANYTHING except sit on the internet all day fighting about issues that you haven’t researched?

Let’s talk about the suppressed wage issue for a second. Mohawk Industries is a multi-national corporation. It is, in fact, the largest floor covering manufacturer. Their corporate headquarters are in GA. A suppressed wage at the corporate level will affect wages throughout the entire country.

Hmmm... now let’s move to the hiring of illegal immigrants. I do agree with DreamsofPolycarp that this is pretty hard to police without giving up all kinds of freedoms and being reduced to a police state. There are things that can be done. Recently, a Maryland business man was sentenced to 5 months in jail, 5 months home detention, and 3 years probation for employing several illegal immigrants. He also has to repay a $700K fine, plus all of the back taxes he should have been paying for these employees. If you make it severely uncomfortable for the employers, then they won’t hire illegal immigrants. If there are no jobs, they will stop flooding in. (Maybe not all at once, but it will happen.)

Last but not least, MOHAWK EMPLOYEES are accused of providing these illegal immigrants with fake Social Security cards and documentation. There’s just nothing anyone can say that would excuse that.
