Tehran's release of 15 Britons may have been a gift, as its president claims, but the standoff is a gift for the captors: The incident pushes oil prices higher and brings the Iranians millions in additional revenue.
So, what did Iran get out of holding on to 15 British sailors and marines for some 10 days? A lot of attention from the West, that's for sure -- and possibly an extra $167 million in oil revenue. No, there wasn't a ransom paid, but the standoff did push the price of crude oil abruptly higher around the world.

That's 3k+ per Iranian oil contract. Tehran's Shi'ite hostage takers manipulated the global energy exchanges again. It's just matter of time before Iran pulls another 'insider trader' con job.
If you can just switch out that picture of the plane for one with a paratrooper with a large fighting knife, it would seem a little sweeter.
Agreed :)
Money talks.....hostages walk.....ping.
They got to show the rest of the Mohammedans that they still have nothing to fear from the West.
There’s only one way to deal with bullies: you don’t go crying to Auntie UN, you don’t keep drawing a line in the sand which you immediately back away from, you hit the piece of work in the gut as hard as you can as often as you can until he cries,”Uncle (Sam)!”
These guys never went into Iranian waters. This is propaganda. The Iranian government were testing to see if they could get away with what they did and they have succeeded.
They were only testing the waters no pun intented to see if we would do anything and they have won. Iran is the next Germany but I think that people do not care because they would like to see the US and UK to lose.
Agreed :)
The wars don’t end, until the men that carry bayonets show up.
This high finance angle is surprising to those of us that don’t think along those lines. It must be very interesting for these guys to experience the power that they do, in so many ways it is different from the power of a western leader.
They truly are big fish in a little pond, and for someone without moral constraints that must be quite a high.
Your overview is correct. The current expanding dangers with Iran’s Shi’ite despots, coupled with other jihadist exporting Islamic states, most of them floating on a sea of OPEC oil profits in a number of respects is similar to 1938’s Nazi Germany. In relation to isolationism, today’s domestic threats stem from the leftist controlled Congress where their left-wing agenda comes first, not national security.
The rest of the fanatical Mohammedans will need to take a second look once Tehran's terrorists take the same rouye as Saddam and his cohorts. It's the only way to deal with those infiltrating Iranian trained jihadist serial killers who are murdering our men and that of the Coalition.
The sooner there is a total alteration of régimes in both Tehran and Damascus the safer for our servicemen, the 'normal' Iraqi public, the Israeli public and pump prices for the whole world. After Iran must be the Wahhabist cult in Arabia.
It is time to blocade the entire Iranian shoreline. Let no ships leave or enter. The ships which try, should be seized and possibly scuttled. Sink the Iranian Navy and blow up their airforce. Then, destroy their generals and army leaders.
When that is over, bomb and kill ever Islamofascist leader/mullah we can find. After the regime change, arm the good Iranians and post a bounty for the heads of the remain Islamofascist Serial Killers. With a triple bonus on the Iranian Serial Killers in Iraq.
You are correct.
We should set back and let Pelosi protect us and guide us.
Hey! I like the ring that has to it!! In fact I love rants and raves filled with chest pounding "hawk talk!!!"
You giddy up Grampa Dave and give us more and more till the people of this country start agreeing with you... Give us those non-PC dirty (bleepin) words!!!
Ought to be fun to watch.
While it is true the Iranian Islamo-nazis have made millions on manipulating the energy markets through kidnapping and holding the British Navy hostages, when the tyrants of Tehran released the British hostages, the Iranian jihadist rulers also made more millions as oil prices temporarily reversed in price.
The 'Persian' energy traders played both ends in options and futures, prepositioning bullish spreads and bearish spreads and made a quick fortune to finance additional Islamic terrorism in Iraq, against our troops, against the very West that they gain wealth from.
The sooner this jihadist cancer is uprooted the better for the whole civilized world.
“Perhaps it’s because he remembers the Liberty, the Pueblo and our EC-121 shot down by KORCOMs a while back. This current incident does tend to remind us of the hostility towards us out there.”
Bingo, Jack!
