Ziegler-Clifford: Just A Warm Up For 2008
Today's Leader Telegram 2 had a citizen letter to the editor that made the point that while they seem to be media/party darlings at this point, neither Obama or Clinton will be capable of winning. Though the piece was obviously written by a conservative, I felt it had "something", some ring of truth. Then later, seeing these 4 videos (below) 3 in succession, I felt quite certain that yes, there is just too much out there on both of them that will be dug up and flung for them to win.

Letter: Dems' presidential well runs dry
Who will the Dems run against the Republicans' Mitt Romney-John Thune ticket next year?
The apparent frontrunners are Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Both could conceivably carry the party standard, but neither can win the White House.
By election time we will have had 20 consecutive years of a Clinton or a Bush. Can America tolerate another four or eight from a Clinton? No way. That general weariness, clearly exemplified by the 2006 election, coupled with Clinton's high negatives -- according to one poll, 44 percent of registered voters will not vote for her under any circumstance -- will have her melting faster than one of those glaciers in Al Gore's movie.
Talk about the audacity of hope, Barack thinks his six months in the national spotlight qualifies him for our highest office. Dave Zien and Rob Kreibich have more experience and better credentials. Despite the deification by the mainstream media and the messiah treatment from the Hollywood celebs, he remains a lightweight who appeals mostly to the fringe-left of the party.
John Edwards had his chance and can go back to making millions as an ambulance-chasing lawyer. Joe Lieberman has been practically excommunicated for placing the good of the country above partisan politics.
That leaves Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel. Who?
With only two incumbent senators ever elected to the presidency, folks such as Clinton, Obama, Christopher Dodd and Joe Biden likely would suffer the same fate as John Kerry. But Democrats are incredibly slow learners come nomination time.
It's been nearly 50 years since a bunch of dead voters from Cook County, Ill., swept John F. Kennedy into office. Since then the Dems have had success only with Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton -- all non-senators from southern Red States. They should draw their water from that well.
A potential winner is not yet on the radar screen.
