CA: Schwarzenegger Rated Well (64% conservatives approve), Bush Poorly In New State Poll
CBS 5 ^ | April 4, 2007 | BCN

Almost two-thirds of California residents believe President George W. Bush is untruthful and only 23 percent approve of his job performance, according to a new poll released today from San Jose State University.

In contrast to the president, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's approval rating is at a near-record high of 62 percent, according to the poll, conducted by the Survey and Policy Research Institute at SJSU.

Schwarzenegger is winning approval from liberal and moderate Californians while still maintaining a 64 percent approval rating among conservatives, according to the survey results.

While California's presidential primary is 10 months away, the poll results could be good news for moderate Republican candidates for president, such as former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

"Our results suggest that among Republicans the Republicans that are most similar to Arnold are going to do the best,'' Jackson said.

Guv Polls Well, Even With Base

http://www.kqed.org/weblog/capitalnotes/archive/2007_04_01_archive.jsp

But the number that most caught my eye was survey respondents who identify themselves as “conservatives.” That’s the group of (usually) die-hard Republicans that has most often been quoted by the media as unhappy over the governor’s stance on global warming and his massive proposal to reform health care— especially the suggestion of a fee/tax/you-name-it on businesses to help pay for it.

In the new poll, 64% of conservatives said they approve of how Schwarzenegger’s handling his job. Granted, that’s down from 71% in January. But it’s a long way from an out-and-out rebellion, isn’t it?

this is why Rudy could win CA in the general, which would make it impossible for the Dems to take the presidency.

“this is why Rudy could win CA in the general, which would make it impossible for the Dems to take the presidency.”

Exactly. That’s why they are pulling out all the stops to try to keep Republicans from nominating him.

“64% amongst Conservatives?”

Most conservatives are quite intelligent and logical.

ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION...It’s not going to change whoever the President is...what makes the next President any different than all the Presidents since Roe v. Wade? And even if it goes back to the States..tell me..how many States are really going to outlaw it?

I used to come on FreeRepublic when I was feeling low and it used to pick me up. Now, when I come on FreeRepublic, I just get more depressed because it just seems like so many of you are living in another decade and refuse to see things as they truly are and work within those parameters.

California Senate leader Perata -D) seeks out-of-Iraq voter initiative

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1812886/posts

The state Senate leader on Thursday announced plans for an advisory ballot measure calling for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, hoping to prompt debate among presidential candidates campaigning in California.

Perata said he has sent letters to other states with early 2008 presidential primaries — including New York and New Jersey — in hopes of creating a “national referendum” on the war next February.

The proposal, which will almost certainly speed through the Democratically controlled Legislature, will present the Republican governor a variety of partisan problems

Dem Angelides would sign it, Arnold will veto it — of course conservatives are very glad to have Arnold as gov.

Republicans don’t equal conservatives, morons! (not you, SJSU)

Of course, Republicans in the state were the folk who voted the RINO into office in the first place. Ah, well we all know the state has gone to the dogs. :(

Another decade... more like another dimension, with Peter Pan.
