The Mormon Advantage
Townhall.com ^ | 4/5/2007 | Maggie Gallagher

Mitt Romney is riding high this week after his victory in "the first primary," which consists of raising cold, hard cash to compete: more than $20 million in the first quarter, $5 million more than his closest contender, Rudy "Lay off my wife!" Giuliani. John McCain came in a lackluster third with $12.5 million.

Romney's campaign benefited from two distinct donor networks, according to media accounts: Wall Street and Mormons. GOP front-runner Rudy, struggling with one of those weird media freak shows erupting around his wife, Judith (her alleged participation in future Cabinet meetings and former puppy killings), must be a little envious on both counts.

Why is it that all the Dem candidates are still married to their first spouse, while among the current crop of leading GOP contenders, the only guy with just one wife is the Mormon?

Truth is, I don't think this is just an accident. There's something about Mormons the rest of us ought to pay attention to: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do much better than almost any other faith group at sustaining a marriage culture -- and they do this while participating fully and successfully in modern life. Utah is above the national average in both household income and the proportion of adults who are college graduates.

Talk about whatever you want, man. I, for one, am not going to argue with AMPU anymore. I only recommend that others make the same decision.

As long as we’re in a time out, I’ll share this.

My wife got this from a friend. It’s an Internet spam, but it’s fun.

Angels Explained by Children

I only know the names of two angels. Hark and Harold. Gregory, 5

Everybody’s got it all wrong. Angels don’t wear halos anymore. I forget why, but scientists are working on it. Olive, 9

It’s not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to heaven, then there’s still the flight training to go through. And then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes. Matthew, 9

Angels work for God and watch over kids when God has to go do something else. Mitchell, 7

My guardian angel helps me with math, but he’s not much good for science. Henry, 8

Angels don’t eat, but they drink milk from Holy Cows!!!. Jack, 6

Angels talk all the way while they’re flying you up to heaven. The main subject is where you went wrong before you got dead. Daniel, 9

When an angel gets mad, he takes a deep breath and counts to ten. And when he lets out his breath, somewhere there’s a tornado. Reagan, 10

Angels have a lot to do and they keep very busy. If you lose a tooth, an angel comes in through your window and leaves money under your pillow. Then when it gets cold, angels go north for the winter.
Sara, 6

Angels live in cloud houses made by God and his son, who’s a very good carpenter. Jared , 8

All angels are girls because they gotta wear dresses and boys didn’t go for it. Antonio, 9

My angel is my grandma who died last year. She got a big head start on helping me while she was still down here on earth. Katelynn, 9

Some of the angels are in charge of helping heal sick animals and pets. And if they don’t make the animals get better, they help the child get over it. Vicki, 8

What I don’t get about angels is why, when someone is in love, they shoot arrows at them. Sarah, 7

Sorry, this game just went into overtime...

>>How is it bashing to state the truth?

If you were stating the truth, not twisting it, it would not be bashing,

Twisting the truth = bashing & Lying.

—> Will you argue that there is only one God,
—>like Christianity? I don’t believe you will,
—>because mormonism has countless gods.

Got Bible?
First Corinthians 8:5&6 http://scriptures.lds.org/en/1_cor/8/5#5
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Sounds like we got it right by this scripture.

—>I am pointing out truth. Mormonism is not
—>Christian in belief or teaching in areas
—>that are incontestable.

Sorry, that is a lie, now we may not be “Orthodox” Christians, but we are defiantly Christian and you have no authority to say outer wise, only Jesus Christ can say that for only he can see our hearts.

—>You and others on this thread - indeed the
—>mormonism center itself - want to pretend
—>to be just another Christian group.

Well, we are another Christian group, I don’t remember us saying “Just” because we do think we are a little special.

The point is who are you to say we can’t be Christian?

You are Just another wannabe arbiter of my soul, sorry, I already have one and you are not him.

Who’s 300 bishops?

All the apostles were gone accept for John and a quorum is needed as well as the Keys, which Peter, James and John still were in possession of in the afterlife!

Someone just sent me this quote. It’s a recent quip from the president of F.A.I.R. I thought it was quite appropriate given our current discussion...

Sometimes those of us who participate in apologetics get caught up in
the thrill of the argument. It sometimes becomes more important to us
to make our point, or win the discussion, than it is sincerely discuss
our differences and try to understand each other. This can happen to
both LDS and non-LDS.

There is one particular type of anti-Mormon who is very caught up in
the thrill of the fight. In their efforts to save us from the
falsehoods of Mormonism, they insult and offend, then are surprised
to find us not beating down their doors to leave Mormonism and join
them. This type of anti-Mormonism ranges from making up and changing
quotes in their material, to standing outside of temples and
conference buildings and calling our wives, daughters and sisters
“whores.” I have to ask myself if Jesus would ever do that. I don’t
recall him ever belittling any common believers. I suppose I should
be thankful for this type of anti-Mormon, as it gives an easy foil
for apologetics. I can’t imagine this brand of anti-Mormonism ever
being effective at converting or deconverting.

I hope we never fall into the same trap. I hope we always treat our
differences with curiosity and not disdain. I hope we always welcome
members who struggle with the commandments, and I hope we always
remember the Savior in our conversations.

—Scott Gordon
President

There are two important things spoke by Jesus that AMPU completely ignored John 17:11 and John 10:34!

The scriptures testifies.

John 17
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

John 10
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

Did Jesus lie when he said we were gods?

Wow! This is getting interesting. Now we have kibitzing from the Apologist’s cheering sidelines. This may be historic, aMPU. Do you suppose there are lurkers reading along on this one? It would be really interesting if Vicomt13 decided to enter the fray again don’rchaknow.

And now taunting! This thread is becoming a parody of itself. I sure hope this doesn't impact Mitt's chances negatively. [ That was to bring the thread back toward the original purpose before the next little-minded four color corners pops up pretending not to insult folks who don't agree with Mormonism. Perhaps the Apologists will just return to condescension since that has been in the game before when someone boasted they were under matched. ]

Nah, Mitt’ll be fine - or rather, he won’t be adversely impacted to a significant degree. (Whether he’ll win the primaries or not is another question, and essentially independent of his religion, despite the picture the MSM has been painting.) One thing I’ve learned in the last few weeks is that, while we’ve seen it on parade in this thread, bigotry against Mormons in the conservative base is pretty isolated.

It’s been interesting, though, to watch the bigots who have participated in this thread egg each other on. All in the name of helping us poor, dumb, brainwashed Mormons.

It’s also been interesting to watch the pathology of Mormon-bashing reveal itself. As sevenbak’s quote said above, it’s the thrill of the fight such people are after, and I find it remarkable how addicted they are to it.

You called it kibitzing earlier that I agreed with the quote; for me, it simply rang unusually true.

Ampu seems to have a problem with the concepts of there being a) more than one God. And that b) Mormons worship but the Godhead.

To him if there is more than one “God” then we must worship them all.

The bible Speaks of Molech and many other “Gods” yet Mormons do not worship these

I submit that there are many here today who worship the God of Money.
I have some friends who worship at the alter of Auto.
Don’t get me started on sports teams which have all but changed the “lords day” into “sports day”.

There are indeed Gods many, but Mormons have but one Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

DEFINITION: kib·itz·ing

1. To look on and offer unwanted, usually meddlesome advice to others.

This thread would be a whole lot shorter if there were less of that going on!
