What one wishes about reality might not be co-extensive with the genuine article. Below are the cross-tabs on a Survey USA poll of Republicans in California last month. Of course, folks in California who self describe themselves as "conservative" might not pass muster with you. You may have very high standards indeed, or something.
Conser Moderate Liberal Giuliani 38% 48% 28% McCain 19% 28% 30% Romney 9% 8% 3% Gingrich 20% 4% 13% Other 8% 8% 1% Undecided 5% 5% 25% Total 100% 100% 100%
Guess it depends on how they define conservatism. Support for abortion, gay rights, gun control, illegal alien pandering, etc, are really not conservative positions.
Your crosstabs are out of date.
Even allowing for this, look at the level of support in your crosstabs. It’s pathetic. It shows a disunified sample. It portrays a lesser of the poor choices which is Guliani.
And do you know the sample size?
Polls can be useful in trending. A more useful crosstabs would be Pre-Post on the same sample or a different sample that could be tracked. Such a tabulation would show how support shifts from one candidate to another. A present trending poll shows an unannounced candidate taking away a statistically significant portion of the Guliani tilt. That candidate is FDT.
