Man Accused Of Shooting Alleged Sacramento Car Thief Injured Teen Expected To Survive
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A south Sacramento man who told police he was defending his property was arrested early Wednesday after shooting a teenager who was allegedly trying to steal his car, authorities said.
Police said 42-year-old Sou Saechin told them he accidentally shot the teen at about 3 a.m. on Rock Creek Way.
But officials said Saechin went too far in trying to protect his red Honda.
"What we try to stress to people is that deadly force, the use of a firearm, is never justified under any circumstances to protect property," said Sgt. Matt Young of the Sacramento Police Department.
Police said Saechin came outside of his home armed with a .22-caliber rifle and confronted three alleged burglars.
Saechin fired one shot, hitting one of the alleged burglars in the chest. The three fled the scene, police said.
Saechin's wife said her husband was not trying to kill anyone but only wanted to warn the robbers.
Saechin was taken to jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.
The injured teenager was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center for treatment and is expected to survive.
Police said they are looking for two other people who were involved in the attempted theft. The men were described as Asian and between 18 and 20 years old.

Bingo!
I wish CA had the Texas-style "Castle-Doctrine" laws. It will be quite awhile, if ever, but cases such as this bring the problem to focus.
With the crime that illegals bring to this state, we definitely need the 2nd Amendment-style of crime solution.
FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
Pathetic. Give this man a medal for shooting the vermin.
What shotgun?
Moral of the story: carry a lighter with your hogleg.
Thanks for the link. I live in Sacramento, and I just composed and sent a heartfelt email to the Sacto PD. I suggested Sgt. Young retract and apologize for his statement, and that Mr. Saechin be honored with an Outstanding Citizen award.
94 to 5, with 1% clueless.
That 1% was the LEO in the story...
Have never figured out why someone would take the time to vote in an opinion poll and have no opinion.

Freeped. Poor guy should have said the magic words:
“I was in fear for my life.”
No the magic words are “I want to speak with my lawyer.” Now it will be hard for him to claim self defense . He could of said that he feared for his life because he was out numbered. He incriminated himself and will probably go to jail and get sued. Poor guy indeed.

Pure Barbra Striesand.
It’s about time that we introduce a little Sharia in terms of how we deal with thieves. I’ll admit that cutting off their right hand is barbaric and gruesome but busting a cap in their ass seems appropriate.
Actually, looking at the poll results, they may have a hard time finding a jury that’s going to convict him. He could still have time to use the *feared for my life* at the trial. No way he’d know if any of the others were packing either. A good lawyer should be able to help him.
