Los Angeles (AP) -- Three rival supermarket chains involved in labor contract talks with thousands of employees in Southern California said Wednesday they will each lock out employees if any of the chains becomes the target of a strike.
The move by the grocers Supervalu Inc.'s Albertsons, Kroger Co.'s Ralphs and Safeway Inc.'s Vons follows a vote last week by employees of Albertsons to give union leaders the authority to call a strike.
Under the markets' pact, if the union orders a selective strike against one of the chains, the other two would lock out employees within 48 hours. The companies also agreed to provide financial assistance to chains whose employees walk out.
"The decision to sign the agreement was made only after, and in response to, the unions' strike threat," Adena Tessler, a spokeswoman for the supermarkets said in a statement. "While none of us wants a work stoppage, the unions' recent strike authorization and threats of future strike votes must be taken seriously."

There is a Mexican-owned supermarket called Jons in Canoga Park that has the biggest vegetables you can find. And cuts of steak that will make you drool all the way home. They have to be buying the best stuff from those farms in Ventura without going through the wholesale market in L.A.
DUDE I know what you talking about my co worker shop at there LOL!
YEAH BABY that store kick a***
I would definitely shop at a non union store or one trying to rein in the ruinous unions. Ruinous? Yes, and that is why may of us do not buy UAW built cars.
Unions are an anachronism...should be shut down. There are already so many laws on the books protecting workers—worse than France.
Sounds like collective bargaining to me!
I know when one electrical supply house in the Detroit area went on strike about 10 years ago, all the other places were locked out also. After that the place I go to voted the out union.
There is another one called Vallarta on Roscoe Blvd. near Canoga Ave. I think they buy directly from the farmers and not that big produce market downtown. The best stuff there gets shipped to other states. You can do the same if you want. Drive down Wendy Drive from the Ventura FWY and check out what those coastal farms are growing. Give the manager $5 and you can pick a boxfull. There is a field of big asparagus there that will ready to pick in about 2 weeks.
MAN I wish connect to FR when last grocery store strike happen I be going to those stores instead LOL!
Look like what I hearing right I think Albertsons going file chapter 11 bankruptcy

During the last strike, I once shopped at an Albertson's that had been targeted for a demonstration. As I exited, some of the strikers yelled at me, "Shame! Shame!" Whereupon, I waved my sales slip in their faces, and they shouted some more. I knew they wouldn't do more than yell, since there was a cop keeping watch.
Go north on Partrero Road until you get to Port Hueneme State Beach. It's a very nice place and the biggest little secret. If you see seagulls flying around, go fishing off the pier there. There is a little restaurant if you don't catch anything. Clean beach. And you can see the islands. Romances started there:)
