TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran on Wednesday freed the 15 detained British sailors and marines in what President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called an Easter gift to the British people. Prime Minister Tony Blair said he bore "no ill will" toward the Iranian people. Iranian state television said the 14 men and one woman, who were seized while on patrol in the northern Persian gulf on March 23, would leave Iran on Thursday. An Iranian official in London said they would be handed over to British diplomats in Tehran.
Ahmadinejad's surprise announcement came at a news conference shortly after he pinned a medal on the chest of the Iranian coast guard commander who intercepted the sailors and marines.
"I'm glad that our 15 service personnel have been released and I know their release will come as a relief not just to them but to their families," Blair said outside his No. 10 Downing St. office. "Throughout, we have taken a measured approach, firm but calm, not negotiating but not confronting, either."
Blair added, "To the Iranian people I would simply say this: We bear you no ill will."

Remain the tried, true and stalwart we always have been, and remember that perfectly Americanized pseudo-latinism:
Illegitimus non carborundum.
In particular, the guy in the center in a light grey suit has one hand up and one hand conspicuously in his pocket. Don’t be surprised to find out that he tell us that it was either the middle finger or a play gun pointed at Ididotrod.
I am really looking forward to their statements, hopefully dramatized publicly for the world to see.
I agree.
Perhaps, but the three gentlemen on the right do not look like happy campers and a brit freeper on another thread said that the Royal Marines in the group have not yet been shown on TV making statements. I think that we may find that some of them comported themselves honorably.
Did you take the BROWN acid? I thought that went out with the “Woodstock” generation.
If you want to help the cause, try thinking a little less lysergic...
Did I say it was a Good Thing? I don't think so. It is, if true, a very Bad Thing, which will lead to more hostage grabs. That sort of thing is SOP in that part of the world anyway, particularly for Persians of the Muzzie persuasion.
I nominate Poland.
Apparently there is no longer much "if" about either part of that, Iranian envoy allowed to meet detainees in Iraq
As I said in the previous post, a very Bad Thing indeed.
Sounds exceedingly plausible.
All but the three on the far right have no business being a professional soldier.
That’s what Blair SHOULD have said “to the Iranian PEOPLE”—why should his tone change?? He is playing to the same crowd that Ahmadinejad is playing to, and frankly, the current leadership enjoys barely more support within Iran than Blair does in the UK. THe Iranian people will be the ones to change the Revolutionary Mullah Theocracy that governs Iran, and it IS important to keep reminding them that this is not a conflict with THEM (I firmly believe a MAJORITY of them are fed up with the idiot brinksmanship played by this nutcase showboater currently calling himself a Leader.
Yeah.
No middle finger salutes either, as was so common with the Viet Nam POW photos.
That's what happens when you let women serve in frontline. A wussification of the entire unit. Woman soldier/marine/sailor is an oxymoron.
What about this frightening scenario: The population of Moscow is 10 million. 2.9 million are Muslims. The birthrate of ethnic Russians is dismal - with something like 8 out of 10 pregnancies resulting in abortions. Not so with the Muzzies. Demographers predict that within 15 to 20 years, the Russian military will be majority Muslim. The Islamists will control the Russian nuclear arsenal without firing a shot!
I believe you are all correct. The three gentlemen on the right did not appear on camera in any propaganda interview.
During the Vietnam War, there were two officers that cooperated with the Vietnamese torturers. In exchange, they receive privileges, luxuries, and the like.
Adm Denton and many other officer filed charges against them when they returned.
I highly doubt that actions will be taken against those who cooperated with the enemy (Iran). Something may be done in quiet, but I even doubt that.
What is needed, however, is more training about resistance techniques and about a code of conduct that soldiers, aircrew, sailors, and marines must follow if captured.
Okay - that's creepy. You need to knock that off!
Or play the horses. :-P
Pelosi will learn a hard lesson from Syria, but she’ll never admit it publicly.
I heard a rumor that Pelosi’s trip to Syria will be written up in “The Journal of Naive Foreign Policy Blunders”. I think she’s earned a full article in that journal.
