Well worth the read

What happens after the gun fight is a look at what you can expect if you bust a cap on "Skippy the bad guy".

And it would pay to remember that you own that bullet until it stops, where ever it stops.

Yes, I carry an old wallet with 10 x $1 as a throw away. I would rather call 911 with a description of a bad guy than call over a shooting.

I am prepard to make the shooting call tho...

Arm yourself. You have a hostile government in NO. A government that deliberately and premeditatedly allowed its citizens to sink deeper into poverty and hopelessness. A government which ordered its armed forces, the police, to break into private homes and steal guns from innocent citizens. A government which is unwilling to stop crime. Arm yourself. Better yet, get out of NO!

Jeez, what a story.

There is a professional conference I would like to go to this year, but it is in NOLA. I realize people want to help revitalize the city, but I don’t think I will go. A friend came back from another conference down there and said that a lot of the stores were locked - you had to knock to get in, and she too was warned not to go out of the hotel area. Granted things can happen anywhere, but why go someplace where they are more likely to happen?

The NRA backed a group that sued to have the guns confiscated returned. Evan after a court order to return the stolen guns they haven’t been returned.

You pull it to USE it

Thank you for making this point clear. IMHO, as soon as a gun is drawn, the target is effectively dead. I'm not trained well enough to use it as a negotiation tool.

People that think it's some sort of magic wand to be waved around, watch too much TV.

...this kid never faced charges on the shoot.

But did he still have a job?

With some of the pizza delivery places, possession of a gun and the use of it to defend yourself while on the job is an immediate firing offense.

Even if you save the company assets from the robber.

I was there last summer, and never had a single problem, but then I’m kind of big and scary. I even had the hotel send me my cell phone when I forgot it in my room. I had assumed it was gone forever, but it was turned in and sent back to me.

But did he still have a job?

Well, pizza delivery is not exactly the top of the food chain for jobs. I waould imagine he found other work.

( That was spoken as someone who delivered on weekends for Dominos for about 2 years as a kid. I carried on the job, my manager knew it, and told me he would have to fire me and deny that I had told him about it if I ever used it. Then he said "I don't blame you. I would carry, too"

I think a lot of people are unaware that, in Louisiana, you can have a weapon in your car, but once you leave your car, you're subject to a whole different set of circumstances.

Yes there are restriction on where you can carry openly or concealed (and they are different), but those mostly involve schools and bars. But for the most party open carry is legal, and if I lived in, or needed to visit, NOLA, I'd be carrying, possibly concealed since TX and LA have reciprocity WRT CCW/CHL.

Here’s another idea:

Make a a dozen color Xerox 100’s, and put them in your fake wallet with some expired credit cards and phony dime store ID.

The thief will think “Jackpot.” And risk real trouble when he tries to spend them (hopefully with a drug kingpin or such).

Just be sure that you don’t accidentally try to spend them! ;-)

(Actually, losing the real bucks is cheaper than a counterfeiting charge.)

"When he goes for it, ..."

What if he makes YOU go for it, all the while pointing his gun at you???

“Livaccari points out that, in a holdup, a gun-waving victim is more likely to end up shot than one who simply hands over money..”

Bull. He’s only interested in job security. If most citizens were armed, we wouldn’t need an army of cops, who by the way, are not required to protect us personally.

Gee, In Alaska - you can carry, period. No permit, license, test or whatever.

I guess the pols finally figured out the felons would do it anyway, so at least the honest citizens have a ‘level playing field’, so as to speak.

I feel a hundred times safer in NO than I do in Milan.

Bet you can't carry a gun in Milan, you can and probably should in New Orleans.

"When he goes for it, ..."

What if he makes YOU go for it, all the while pointing his gun at you???

Then you're no worse off than if he- or she, quite frequently- politely and graciously accepted your tribute and then decided to execute you, eliminating the chance of your giving the cops a detailed description.

Pointing a gun at me is no guarantee that the shooter will hit me, nor that I'll quit if I am hit. And if I do pass away from this world and its troubles, my last act will not be one of cowardice or tame submission, but of doing the very best I can to make certain that whoever tries to kill me comes along for the ride.

So far, outside of military situations, I'm about eight of them ahead of the game.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Milan, carry a MILAN.

They've been having problems in NO with several such conferences and conventions being cancelled.

Funny, you'd think if the Democrats were serious about showing their support for the city and its people, they'd have rescheduled the Democratic Convention for New Orleans instead of Denver.

2 conventions cancel because of blight, crime

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Two trade associations that would have brought nearly 6,000 people to New Orleans have canceled meetings scheduled more than two years from now, saying members are worried about crime and the city's problems recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

The National Ground Water Association and the Specialty Tools and Fasteners Distributors Association both had conventions scheduled in late 2009. Together, they were expected to account for more than 12,000 hotel room nights.
