Giuliani Surmounts Expectations In N.H.
Boston Globe ^ | 4/4/07

Posted on 04/04/2007 5:14:11 AM PDT by areafiftyone

HAMPTON FALLS, N.H. -- The guests at Thomas and Ellen Christo 's home on New Hampshire's Seacoast on Monday night knew Rudolph W. Giuliani's history well -- his three marriages, his support for abortion rights, even recent news of a federal investigation targeting his former business partner and police commissioner, Bernard Kerik .

But as Giuliani walked under red, white, and blue bunting to arrive at the first New Hampshire house party of his presidential campaign, camera flashes popped and the crowd brimmed with anticipation. When the former mayor of New York whipped off his glasses, stood in front of an American flag, and pronounced himself ready to take the fight to the terrorists, people nodded .

"If I was a terrorist, I'd be really nervous of Rudy Giuliani," said Ron Vars of East Kingston, who owns a telecommunications brokerage. "I don't care about this personal stuff; he's a leader. I have an ex-wife. I don't have two of them, but that's OK."

Political observers have long predicted that Giuliani's early strong support in the 2008 Republican presidential primary would dissipate as conservative voters learned about his past support for gun control, gay rights, and abortion rights. In addition, the thinking went, some conservatives would be repelled to learn of his sometimes chaotic personal life and the tarnished records of some of his business associates.

Yet as details about Giuliani's life and record have emerged in politically astute New Hampshire, many voters say their support remains firm. They maintain that his success in New York City and his views on taxes and fighting terrorism -- shaped by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 -- outweigh any personal foibles and positions on social issues that stray from the GOP party line.

I just thought that I’d note that an anti-Rudy doesn’t think NYC is part of the United States.

Another classic Peach misrepresentation.

The poster in question was refuting notions that somehow the Bill of Rights does not apply to NYC, given Rudy's own comments about the legal needs regarding gun control in NYC versus rural areas. We can always count on you misrepresenting facts in your overwhelming desire to attack social conservatives and gun-rights conservatives on a conservative website.

Plus, you didn't ping the poster in question, either. Another forum rules violation by Peach, who NEVER has posts deleted, or if she does, it's a double standard.

The American people were polled and already think a Democrat will win the presidency

That is quite telling. Rudy is the frontrunner in the GOP race. And the American people think the Dems will win. Which means THEY THINK RUDY WOULD LOSE.

Nope. As long as you misrepresent facts and the views of other posters, and violate forum rules, I'll point it out. Otherwise, folks might believe your sanctimonious routine that you're a victim of an FR double standard.

It’s still Rudy’s to lose. If Fred Thompson expects to make a run, he’s going to have to get in pretty soon. And I don’t think Romney’s money is going to make any difference.

Fine, follow my posts around and pull your little Drama Queen act. You provide daily entertainment to a lot of us although I really think it’s time you updated your act.

It's getting harder and harder to follow your posts around, given how many are yanked nowadays for personal attacks when you are called on your nonsense.

What makes people think that a liberal mayor with no national security experience will be good for national security is beyond me.

Rudy's popularity is simple: He is viewed as a leader.

Hardly. Your posts stand out like a sore thumb. They either get the facts wrong or attack conservatives, such as saying socons probably don't have money and want handouts from the government.

A DU poster is just as easy to notice, and for the same reason - both you and a DUer attack conservatives.

He should be running as a Democrat.

Then, I could look at him as a respectable liberal. As a Republican, I just look at him and think “we can do better than this guy.”

Caught admitting you stalk my posts and now you’re desperately trying to find a way around it. No problem, we all knew it was happening before you admitted it.

Carry on.

Hydroshock moans:
What makes people think that a liberal mayor with no national security experience will be good for national security is beyond me.

Pray tell, what "national security experience" was had by Ronald Reagan before he assumed the presidency?

We all know what Mr. Reagan accomplished for his lack of experience: the destruction of Marxism as an economic and social paradigm.

What we need now is a leader who will apply the same efforts toward the destruction of Islam as a religious paradigm.

Not saying that Rudy will accomplish this. But, he will stand up to Islam (and the liberals and their sycophant media) as well as anyone out there. Well, perhaps Tom Tancredo has been more forthright about that (and I support what Mr. Tancredo has said), but he doesn't stand a chance to be elected.

In case you failed to notice it, your post where you misrepresented what FredHunter08 said, and where you failed to ping him when mentioning what he said, is directly below my first post on this thread.

In other words, I was posting here before you entered, and couldn't fail but notice your nonsense in the post directly below mine.

But, once again, you never let the facts get in the way of your attacks.
