Kerry: McCain Wanted to Join '04 Democratic Ticket
The Stump/AOL News Election Blog ^ | April 3, 2007 | Matt Singer

Nice scoop by MyDD.com, who have John Kerry on tape saying that political handlers for John McCain approached him regarding the possibility of the senator from Arizona joining the Democratic presidential ticket. This news comes on the heels of reports that John McCain apparently approached Sen. Tom Daschle in 2001 about caucusing with Senate Democrats, wresting control of the chamber away from the GOP (Jim Jeffords beat him to the punch).

The senator's presidential campaign is already reeling from disappointing fundraising numbers for the first quarter. His biggest strength is that he has a huge number of small dollar donors, many of whom probably won't mind that he flirted with crossing the aisle. But as these reports go public, the big money in the GOP will turn off even more.

The Democrats have no plans to have a campaign for president. Their only plan is to destroy the person and character of every Republican who runs. That is what this is all about. Without that approach and without the media, the Dem party would have no chance. In fact, the media is really going to choose our Pres. unless something changes.

It isn’t the Republican vote that really matters. It’s that vast middle ground of swing voters that elect presidents and he’s likely to siphon off a lot of those.

while i know it’s wise to consider the JK factor, i really do not have a hard time believing this... because i’m also considering the McCain factor...

Perhaps. But McCain’s appeal is to those who view him as a maverick. Those people tend to be Democrats, not Republicans.

This guy has been dead in the water since 2000.

The media alone is just starting to figure it out.
