German Breeder, "N. Korean Might Have Eaten Rabbits"

The German Rabbit Breeder (Karl) Szmolinski, who sold 12 dog-sized giant rabbits to N. Korea in order to help alleviate N. Korea's food shortage, indicated that he would no longer supply the rabbits to N. Korea, according to Internet edition of 'Foreign Policy', a magazine specialized in foreign affairs.

According to the publication, quoting German magazine Spiegel, Szmolinski made the decision, because he suspect that the rabbits he sent to N. Korea last year were not being raised but turned into food for N. Korean high officials.

He originally planned to visit N. Korea this spring and inspect the rabbit breeding facilities and give advice on how to raise the rabbits, but N. Korea is refusing to issue his visa, which led to his suspicion.

However, N. Korean Embassy in Berlin denied his speculation, insisting that the rabbits were imported not to be cooked as food but to be bred.

When Bill Richardson or Christopher Hill visits N. Korea, he might be treated to the delicacy made from meat of giant rabbits. I wonder how it tastes.

Re #6

Original plan: breed many rabbits then eat them

What might have actually happened: skip the breeding and go straight to eating them.

No, they were there for breeding so that the North Koreans would have an ongoing food source.

I can’t say for sure, looks somewhat like it has been taken through fish-eye lenses, but the face of the man isn’t distorted.

I’d feed them normal-sized rabbit brains, so they’d get mad rabbit disease, then I would put sharp gold “grilles” on their front teeth, and I could sell them to drug dealers and rappers for “protection”

A search said they get up to (or average size?) 23 lbs. With all that fur I imagine they look 3x bigger than they actually are. (Just today I was relating to my kids how a mouse can fit through a hole the diameter of a pencil!)

A good reason you won’t be seeing the “Eukanuba Pyongyang Dog Show” on “Animal Planet” anytime soon.
