Giuliani picks up steam in North Carolina
News & Observer ^ | April 2, 2007 | Rob Christensen and Bill Krueger

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is leading in national polls of the Republican presidential field, is picking up support in North Carolina. Giuliani will be the guest at a fundraiser on April 25 in Greensboro at the home of Dr. Aldona Wos, the former U.S. ambassador to Estonia, and her husband, Louis DeJoy.

Jim Culbertson, a Winston-Salem businessman who headed the two state campaigns for George W. Bush, will chair Giuliani's North Carolina campaign. DeJoy will be a co-chairman.

"We were pretty much blown away by him," Culbertson said.

Culbertson said Giuliani could help Republicans win in Democratic-leaning areas.

"All we need is New Jersey and Pennsylvania and we have the next election," Culbertson said.

"He is basically conservative, outside the social issues."

Two days after his Greensboro fundraiser, Giuliani will be back in North Carolina to kick off the Conservative Leadership Conference, which will be April 27-28 at the Sheraton Raleigh Capital Center.

Guess who left office in 2001?

It seems there are a fair number who are trying to lose elections here. Winning elections is what politics is about.

Most of my sisters friends do to. She's a hardcore liberal, contributor to the Village Voice and a Daily Kos member. She says all republicans should like giuliani, so no matter who runs, liberals win.

FWIW, these two hosts are country club republicans who live in a 10,000 s.f., $6 million house which was the highest price ever recorded in NC for a residential property back in 2005.

"FWIW, these two hosts are country club republicans who live in a 10,000 s.f., $6 million house which was the highest price ever recorded in NC for a residential property back in 2005."

What is the point of the above comment? Republicans are suppose to avoid people with money. It's Fundraising 101 where people with money try to get other people with money to contribute to a candidate.

ROFL.... spoken like a true country clubber.

"Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do" - Rudy Giuliani

What is the point of the above comment?

That they're part of the insular NCGOP country club set that has been SO successful running the state party (into the ground) for the last however many years?

They sound like Howard Dean telling people to stop voting based on God, gays, guns, and abortion.

Are you implying that a candidate say like Romney wouldn't accept their fundraising effort?

Speaking as a North Carolinian we're none to happy with Giuliani. His candidacy is a sure fire way to lose to the dems.

One thing that all voters, right, middle, and left, have in common is that they want to know what they're getting. Running a left leaning RINO candidate against a real liberal democrat means one thing only... the left and the middle will vote in the liberal and hang the fake conservative out to dry.

If we (conservatives) want to win, we need bold colors. We need a real conservative candidate.
