In just three weeks, Fred Thompson has transformed the contest for the Republican presidential nomination. It is not merely that he has come from nowhere to double digits in polls. He is the talk of GOP political circles because he is filling the conservative void in the field.
Republican activists have complained for months that none of the Big Three -- Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney-- fits the conservative model of a conservative leader for a conservative party. The party faithful have been waiting for another Ronald Reagan. But in conversations with them the past year, nobody mentioned Thompson as the messiah until he appeared March 11 on "Fox News Sunday."
Thompson was surprised by the reaction to his statement that he was "giving some thought" to running. In the first Gallup Poll that listed Thompson (conducted March 23-25), he scored 12 percent -- amazing for someone out of public life for more than four years who has not campaigned. More important is his backing within the political community. Buyer's remorse is expressed by several House members who endorsed Romney, the former Massachusetts governor.

You speak for all conservatives?
I've been in more immigration threads than most in this forum, and I've read the term "moratorium on immigration" plenty of times.
P.S. I don't recall saying a thing about conservatives "hating" immigrants, so please stick to discussing what I said, and quit putting words in my mouth so you can then disagree with something I never said.

Got any proof? Forget that, just post some credible evidence to back up your mouth. (sound of crickets chirping)

"There is no committed money left for Thompson OR McCain, it is a complete ruse."
The truth is, it's still early in the campaign, and there's plenty of money to be raised. Among the 57% of Republican who are unhappy with their choice of Rudy McRomney, there is a lot of money out there for a Thompson campaign to lay its hands on. Not to mention all of Mitt's money and other resources which will be consolidated by Thompson when he forces Mitt to withdraw.
Next straw man?
It shouldn't be possible to attack a GOP candidate over ideology. This should be your first indication of a serious problem with a candidate.
"They twisted it."
LOL!!!
Don't dictate to me what I should do.

Grasping at strawa...
Again you show no capacity to learn.
Abortion rights activists do not want Congress passing laws banning partial birth abortion or providing for parental notification and so on. Amd so far the federal government has not been able to interfere with Roe vs. Wade.
But Roe vs. Wade does in fact involve the federal government involvement in making abortion legal.
So the federal government is in fact involved in abortion, get it?
It is government involvement via Roe vs. Wade that FDT is against and his record shows it.
LOL!!
You could be right about that. I work 10-12 hours a day and don't have time to just sit and read every thread that pops up on the forum. All the discussions I heard/read have been against illegal immigration. Although the pro-illigals have always tried to paint a those opposed to illegal aliens as against all immigration.
I chuckled too. I am a former Wisconsinite. Moved to the left coast in 1982, so I was not there while he was Governor. However, his performance in health care in Wisconsin and Washington was decidedly not conservative. In Wisconsin he called it BadgerCare which was supposed to be a means of providing health care to everyone in the State. We have seen that scenario elsewhere and it's unintended consequences.
You said 'many', I said few.
Many is a large portion.
Few is a small portion.
FR is not the universe of conservatives.
Your statements about FDT are false, your logic is twisted and you show no capacity to learn.
You're not gaining anything here, what is your reason for being here when no one is buying your line?
If Fred decides not to run, I will look over the other candidates and support the most conservative one left standing. I will not vote for McCain under any circumstance.
Laugh away. That post shows you're a clown, devoid of any capacity to make a reasonable argument.
Why are you here?
No. They were planted by the likes of AP and The Memphis Appeal in 1994 without any direct quotes from Fred, not to mention numerous blogs on the left and right in 2007.
.
Your perception vs. mine.
I say many, say what you want.
You don't know who is "buying" anything or not.
"No one" is an absolute number that you can't prove.
Got proof?
Actually, the post I laughed at says a whole lot about you, and nothing about me.
Have a good laugh.
Bye Bye!
SUPPORT FREDERALISM!!!!
You can make your own HERE. :)
If he's against government involvement, then he is also against making abortion illegal!
Which leaves the CHOICE of whether to have an abortion or not, to the individual, without interference from the government, and in accordance to her own convictions.
You yourself just agreed that as far as his politics are concerned, Fred Thompson in pro-choice!
