When Eliseo Hernandez came to the United States 30 years ago, he thought he drove better after a few beers. Driving drunk had been normal back in Mexico, he said. But Hernandez, 54, learned of its perils firsthand. He quit the practice after falling asleep at the wheel and hitting a tree 18 years ago.
Then, last year, a young Hispanic man who authorities say was drunk nearly killed Hernandez's only son, Diego, in a crash on a rural Johnston County road. Eliseo Hernandez's daughter, who was nine months pregnant, lost her unborn child in the accident.
Hernandez has spent the past year following Diego through four hospitals and 14 brain surgeries. Diego only recently began to smile again and might never walk.
Hernandez said he hopes his painful journey will teach his friends and family a lesson. Car accidents are the top killer of Hispanics in North Carolina, and the disproportionate number of alcohol-related arrests and wrecks are an embarrassment to a minority already beleaguered by hard feelings over illegal immigration.

Yup, its not the individuals fault, its the culture. In the liberals philosophy, the individual is not responsible for his actions. It is society's fault.
And we are the blessed recipients of their culture. How fortunate are WE?
Drinking excessively as well as drunk driving certainly aren't unique to hispanics.
If the United States wasn't such a Nazi, Racist, closed country....Then Hispanics could drive drunk and not have accidents...
If it is not booze it is drugs and it will never change. There is also another common denominator most have a history of family abuse. Do not believe me just turn on a police scanner and listen to the Hispanic areas of town.
Well, that settles it. If it's a cultural value we certainly can't oppose it. That would be racist.
Drive and have an accident when it is found your fault you should pay for all damages. What ever the cost may be. Drive drunk and have an accident which is found not your fault, (even though you were drunk) the other person should pay for damages, what ever the cost may be.
But that ain't gonna happen whether your a Spanish person or Canadian.

Well, that's a start.
Drunk driving is just another aspect of "diversity" that we must tolerate, nay, celebrate. Sigh.
Is tagging cultural as well. Inquiring minds would like to know.

How about deporting ALL people convicted of DWI ~ maybe to a country where the culture encourages and supports the practice.
Who said anything about not criticizing those behaviors? I certainly didn't. All I did was point out a fact.

BDS is rife around here. Do you blame Bush too for all of the born and raised Americans, naturalized Americans, and legal immigrants and visitors who drunkenly plow into carloads of people?
