Former Tennessee U.S. senator and television actor Fred Dalton Thompson has not decided whether to run for president in 2008, but that hasn't stopped people from talking as if he is in the race.
There is a Draft Thompson Web site, www.fred08.com, launched by U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Chattanooga, that asks for contributions and moral support. The site also compares Thompson, first elected to the Senate in 1994, to former President Ronald Reagan.

Others quoted in the Post story last week:
The only downside to a Thompson candidacy might hit those who enjoy him more on television shows than in the political arena. The Post cited political observers as noting that, if Thompson throws his hat in the ring, he would likely disappear from the airwaves except in news programs. That would include reruns of "Law & Order."
In that respect, the comparison to Reagan, whose movies were dropped during the 1980 presidential campaign, would be on target.
Another downside is his lack of executive experience. We'll keep an eye on him, though.
Bush has executive experience.....look what its done for him!
DON'T BE MISLED---WE WILL WIN WITH FRED.
Good point, LOL! He's done a real fine job of leading the Republican Party, hasn't he? (I won't even bring up his executive prowess when it comes to the Justice Department.)
Memo to Fred:
My checkbook is open and my pen is warmed up.
Just say the word.
"Another downside is his lack of executive experience. We'll keep an eye on him, though."
With that flawed logic, the Dems should can Hillary and Obama's campaigns and nominate Kathleen Blank-O.
Now there's a mental image. Eww!
That said, I like him and will certainly give him due consideration.
Thank God we may have a choice other than the current crop of RINO's.
The DNC will pay plenty to get him NOT to run. If he doesn't want to run, might as well make some money off it.
Mr. Smith,
You can be sure there is a lot of excitement over the possibility of being able to have a choice to vote for that is conservative..on my local station Mr. Thompson has been subbing for Paul Harvey in the 30 minutes before Rush and has generated quite a buzz here in East TN.
C
I hope he decides soon.
Fred Thompson ping.
If Fred Thompson gets his own late night talk show then I'll be worried; ha
Thompson is a real person, not some concocted image dreamed up by some half-assed political party. He would be one of the best people this country could produce for the BIG JOB. It is too bad that this country doesn't wake up to the fact that there really are some people out there that could make a real difference. This man is a communicator, has a dynamic presence, commands your attention when he speaks, makes sense when he discusses issues, is not afraid to give you his opinion, and above all has no baggage to drag him down. Politics has always been a vicious business, and few good people can take the heat in order to get the job. The political battleground is littered with the bodies of good people that could not withstand the attacks. Here we are, in the 'information age', and we still can't get the job done. Yes, indeed, it would be a modern miracle if we could elect a man like Mr. Thompson. He would certainly get my vote, and for the first time in my life, I would actually work for his election.
Fred = stone cold lock...
Understatement of the new millennium. Please don't send Tom Sellick.
Even San Francisco's liberal KGO carries Paul Harvey, so I've been able to enjoy listening to Fred, also.
He was on an afternoon talk show a while back(Hannity or Schnitt).I like what i heard but know very little about the man-time to do some research. To date,i'm very disappointed with the offerings-McCain,Guilliani,etc...
