Texas FReepers, Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 21, 12:00 Noon.
We are so very fortunate that Freeper "leofl" has arranged to give us a tour of Fort Hood. Fort Hood is located near Killeen, West of I-35 exits at Temple, Belton area. Thanks so much Leo, for making this happen. Please note if you are interested in joining us. We're still working on a few details but for now here's Leo's note to us......
"I will take you on-post to both the 1st Cav museum and the 4th ID area. I will also show you some of the sights and maybe sounds of Fort Hood. Bring your cameras as you can take pictures at the museums. Other places are clearly marked and I assure you you will have a great time. This is a family friendly outing but there are some things everyone should know.
Fort Hood is now a restricted base. We can get on-base but be sure to bring:
A copy of your insurance card and registration for your automobile
Proper Government ID ie driver's license, State id etc
Do not bring any weapons even if you are a CCL licensee. This is federal property and it makes the guys with bigger guns crazy!!! lol
A fun attitude and a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
Children are welcome and appreciated!!! Let them see what some of our brave heroes are doing to protect their future. Besides I'm a big kid at heart!!"
Does anyone have the Texas FR list to ping? Help!
FYI, I have recently moved from Dallas To Cedar Park. Please keep me posted on current events.
Count me in. What time? Which gate? Where do we meet?

Glad to have you. I'll get Leofl our host to answer some of those questions. For now we just wish to get people to mark their calendar. I take it you're familiar with the base. Let me ping leofl.
Great!!. We surely will. If you send me your email I'll add you to our Austin Area HOT Chapter email list. Check your freep mail.
The one time I have been to Ft. Hood there was an unbelievable amount of a special type of sticky Texas mud. IIRC it was around this time of year.
What did you visit?

My son completed Airborne training at Ft. Benning and was just transfered to Ft. Hood. He told me his accomodations are far superior to those in Columbus, Geogia. He is happy to finally get tasked to a unit as he is tired of the revolving door relationships unique to the training process.
Thanks to all for your efforts on behalf of our kids and us, their families.
Sincerely,
PresidentFelon

Nice preview A.R. Thanks :-)
Wow, I bet Killeen commuters were pissed when that went into effect.
We're proud of you and your son. We love our military here on FR. Can't wait to see Fort Hood. It will help us appreciate our military even more.
We are fortunate to live in the greatest nation on Earth and it is the duty of every American to make sure the dream of our Founding Fathers lives on.
I'd like to add: FOR Our CHILDREN and Grandchildren and all future generations.
