HESPERIA, Calif. A wildfire is burning out of control in the Southern California community of Hesperia (heh-SPAYR'-ee-uh). Authorities say the blaze has consumed about 200 acres of brush. But no structures are immediately threatened.
A fire spokeswoman says the fire is burning through hills and canyons within the city limits, but far from populated areas.
More than 100 firefighters and a pair of water-dropping helicopters are battling the blaze.
Hesperia is about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
Wildfire ping!
The smoke is drifting north into Apple Valley. My eyes are stinging. I hope this thing doesn't get into any horse properties.
map of the general area:
I just talked to my wife who is visiting her mother in Hesperia. She lives off Danbury on the bluff above the golf course and they've got smoke in the house also but the fire is quite a distance away to the south, I believe.

HESPERIA, Mar. 31, 2007 (KABC-TV) - Dozens of homes were evacuated Saturday as a wildfire burned out of control in hills and canyons in this city east of Los Angeles, authorities said.
The fire burned about 1400 acres and was approaching populated areas, said San Bernardino County Fire spokeswoman Angie Samayoa.
"It's increased substantially," Samayoa said.
An initial mandatory evacuation of 30 homes was ordered late Saturday afternoon, but within hours approximately 200 home were ordered evacuated from Ranchero Road at Arrowhead Lake Road to junction of Hwy 173 and 138, according to Cindy Beavers of the San Bernardino Sheriffs Department.
Samayoa said the new evacuations were in a "fairly well-populated area."
An evacuation center was set up at Sultana High School at Soltana St. X I Avenue and evacuated animals were being collected at Lime Street Park in Hesperia.
Firefighters received a call at about 10:30 a.m., and by afternoon more than 100 firefighters and a pair of water-dropping helicopters were battling the blaze, authorities said.
The cause was under investigation.
Hesperia is about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
