Move Along, Moveon - Operation Infinite FReep - Tucson After Action Report 3/19/2007

Move Along, Moveon

On March 17, 2007 International A.N.S.W.E.R's "anti-war" protest was foiled in Washington DC by the Gathering of Eagles who successfully countered them. In this instance, over 30,000 Pro-Americans supported the troops and their mission while protecting monuments from vandalism. As the Gathering of Eagles grew, many "anti-war" activists decided they had to be somewhere else to be that weekend. A recent count estimates only 5-6 thousand of the most hard-core left appeared in DC, with even Jane Fonda cutting and running from the anti-American assembly known as "March on the Pentagon."

Here in Tucson, the Gathering of Eagles also overwhelmed a similar event that marched on the local military installation the same Saturday. At least 90 Pro-Americans stood up for the troops against 70 fuming peaceniks, Communists, 9/11 conspiracy theorists and Democrats who protested Davis-Monthan Air Force base. Although several stated to news cameras that they were not protesting the troops, it was rather obvious that they were since they were standing across the street from a military base.

Actions speak louder than words, and so do protest signs. So when someone emailed me about a "peace vigil" by the radical group Moveon.org scheduled Monday evening at 7:00 pm following Saturday's event I knew it was another, different kind of propaganda. Instead of angrily shouting at the military, the "vigil" would feature liberals with candles on a busy city street professing sadness to news cameras and passing cars that Iraqi citizens and American military personnel had been killed. However, no terrorist or dictator would be held accountable, even though they initiate the actual killing. Instead, the President and America would be blamed, in spite of the fact that our military actions prevent killing and bring freedom to Iraq.

The tortured logic of the left demands twists and turns of reason that boggle the mind of the casual observer. Even though the "Coalition of the Willing" led by America quickly defeated Ba'athist Iraq, leftists are to this day unable to say: "We won the war" with a straight face. They cannot admit any success in the subsequent rebuilding of Iraq's infrastructure, no matter how many schools are built, businesses re-opened, elections held and hospitals repaired. False accusations of Americans committing atrocities by the left have slowed but not stopped. Inflated statistics are thrown about like some sort of hideous confetti, including one canard that says "600,000" Iraqi civilians died.

News cameras later bore out the fact that this assembly was no real vigil but a street protest with the usual placards to "Impeach Bush" and so forth. The Tucson Citizen openly called it an "anti-war" protest. Moveon.org is affiliated with United for Peace and Justice along with other extremist groups that network socialist organizations for these events. Their aim is to dishearten the nation and our troops while recruiting more suckers for their radical movements. They also want to elect "progressive" candidates. Does it work?

To a certain extent it does. Statistically there are always some who will be fooled by propaganda. And it always helps to have liberal news media on your side. Had the Citizen realized the protest was meant to be reported as a "vigil" instead of a "protest" they probably would have cooperated. Lack of communication and some accidentally competent journalism spoiled the planned theater of the protest in the article though it was sympathetic in tone. But that's not the only thing that disrupted the "vigil."

In a rented hall or at an organized speech, interference isn't a recommended form of protest. Free speech should not be interrupted in such a controlled setting. But a fake death vigil on a public street that is actually a thinly veiled political protest led by radicals is another matter. Moveon.org had registered 148 people on their site to attend. I called "General" Pat earlier that day and told her I would be there but right at the start time. She called around to members of Tucson's loose coalition of Pro-Americans but on short notice only 10 Eagles would be able to get there in time.

When the "General" reached the intersection of Speedway and Campbell near the University of Arizona on March 19, 2007 it was still daylight and a few left-wingers were gathering on the NE corner. When some more Pro-Americans arrived they went out and took over the empty SW corner with American flags and signs of troop support. The battle was on! Journalists arrived from the Tucson Citizen and Fox News 11. The Fox News report I saw later was surprisingly tilted left with sympathy and cover for the "vigil," although several radical protest signs were revealed by the camera. The reporters quickly left before dark. When I arrived the night was falling. It looked as if all who had registered were there as the other corners were overflowing. I was soon handed a bullhorn.

Before I started, however, I noticed some left wing "invader" students had braved our corner to stand among us. Holding cardboard squares less then two feet wide by about a foot tall, about 6 of them stood amongst us. But they had used ordinary pens for their signs!

"You realize that by standing here with your small unreadable sign, the passing cars will see my big readable sign and think you're on our side. So you're actually helping us," I patiently explained. (Note to self: Next time just accept the help!) Maybe they wanted to help us because they stayed for some time, even after I began singing. I started with "God Bless America," and went on to sing the theme songs of the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines. Just to make sure the message got through I repeated each one three or four times. Eventually most of the "small sign" students left after it became clear that I wouldn't stop singing.

This type of bullhorn has a lot of range and could be easily heard across a large intersection such as the one we were on. Since they had brought only candles and protest signs, I had a captive audience. I began a lecture on the evils of Communism.

"Marxist regimes killed over 100 million people in the 20th Century while all the wars put together during that time period killed 35 million," I boomed out to the gape-jawed Moveon.org crowd. "DiscoverTheNetworks.org will reveal to you the agenda, backing and affiliations of Moveon.org. Find out the truth. Do not believe your Communist leaders. They are telling you lies!"

"We won the war and liberated Iraq. Even now our troops are helping the Iraqi people consolidate their freedom. Your actions are supporting the terrorists and former regime of Saddam Hussein. Don't stand for the killing regimes of terrorists, dictators and Marxists. Don't stand for Death. Stand for America and freedom!"

I continued in this vein for quite some time, while passing out the column "The killing machine that is Marxism" by Professor R.J. Rummel and some other article printouts to passing students and protesters who went by us on their way home. Several were polite and accepted some literature. Others refused, some made obscene gestures and a few tried to give a parting verbal shot then scamper off down the street. But you can't get away with doing that to a man with a bullhorn. (Note to self, be nice to people with bullhorns when leaving an area.) I leisurely got in the last amplified word with every scampering moonbat.

To lighten up the "vigil" a bit I also injected humor into my far-reaching dialogue.

"Communism is not very good for you," I declared to a smiling group who had been astonished to find an anti-Communist upon arriving and were leaving early. "It makes you break out in a red rash. It causes malnutrition. Side effects are depression, economic failure, starvation and death."

This last caused a nearby policeman to crack up. The officers had been called by us when a short, stocky moonbat familiar to us from occasional Wednesday morning protests angrily stalked over to our corner and attempted to block my sign, although he didn't have one of his own. That plan was foiled when I lifted it higher than him but his aggressive attitude while trying to get in front of people including patriotic minors caused us to request a police presence. With grim expression the pushy peacenik maniacally displayed index and middle finger to every passing car while hopping about like a mad scientist's assistant. Since he was trying to stay near me, I decided to play the part of the scientist.

"V for Victory!" I expounded to the cars backed up at the stoplight as my "assistant" gave the sign to them. "V for Victory in Iraq. V for Victory!" Probably convinced I was merely engaging in some sort of reverse psychology to make him stop, the V flashing liberal kept helping me with a sort of demented intensity for some time. Finally he stalked off after being interviewed by The Heat as we all were on that corner. A grinning student who seemed happy for both sides helped me sing the national anthem. One patriot was across the street with an un-doctored American flag but I never did find out who he was.

By 8:20 pm all 150 Moveon.org folks had moved on so the Pro-Americans packed up our signs and flags to go home to our families. The "anti-war" protest disguised as a vigil had not gone unanswered - this time. But what future events organized by well funded left wing organizations will there be? America needs more patriotic American volunteers to investigate, research and refute left-wing propaganda actions such as these that are designed to sabotage the war effort for political gain. Will you answer Uncle Sam's call to the home front? It's time to stand up for America!

Here are some extra facts for Free Republic:

1. We were joined by a young man who will be enlisting in the Marines soon.

2. The corner of Speedway and Campbell is where moonbats retreated to from the Tucson Military Recruiting Center on Wednesday mornings.

3. The next Wednesday after the stunning Saturday defeat at the hands of Gathering of Eagles and this Moveon.org counter-protest, the moonbats struck back. 6 trash-talking high school girls showed up early at the weekly Wednesday Recruiting Center protest with a large paper banner, but were confused when "General" Pat gave them a history lesson.

4. Another bullhorn speech: "March on the Pentagon was defeated in Washington, DC. 30,000 people from Gathering of Eagles stood up for the troops and America. Only a few thousand "anti-war" protesters showed up. Jane Fonda did not show up. Jane Fonda has abandoned you!"

5. Another bullhorn speech: "Aren't you ashamed of yourselves? You are standing up here with your candles and protest signs supporting the terrorists instead of America! What's wrong with you? Don't you realize the terrorists are the bad guys? America is fighting for freedom and liberty. Stand up for America!"

6. Another bullhorn speech: "Thousands of schools have been built and repaired in Iraq. Hospitals have also been built and repaired. Businesses, farms and factories are being restarted under Free Iraq. Saddam Hussein's mass killing and torture has been stopped. Liberty is rearing her head in Iraq. But you here in this intersection protesting America have some sort of problem with that. Why?"

7. The pushy protester also tried to give a parting shot while leaving. "Good evening, ladies," he called out as he crossed the street with a lady who came to get him. "And good evening to you two ladies crossing the street, there!" I boomed out.

8. I didn't have time to adjust my camera for the light so I didn't get any photos. Sorry!

9. Many people in passing cars gave us honks and cheers, but being by the University of Arizona we also got quite a few curses and gestures.

10. Yeah, right, just a "vigil." Below is a photo from the Tucson Citizen.

Chris Dayton is one of about 300 people at Speedway Boulevard
and Campbell Avenue Monday to protest the war in Iraq.

11. No, there wasn't 300 people. It was about 120-150. They mostly conceded the SW corner to us 10 Pro-Americans after I started singing.

From the same site, another big lie speaking of Socialism/Communism.
