CARACAS, Venezuela President Hugo Chavez ordered Venezuela's bank deposit protection fund to transfer its assets "to the poor," the latest move threatening to undermine one of the country's autonomous financial institutions.
Venezuela's Fogade insurance fund holds properties and other assets, which guarantee deposits in the banking system, much like the U.S. government's Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
"I want all the assets held by Fogade to be passed to the Republic," Chavez said Thursday on his "Hello, President" TV talk show.
"Fogade has many warehouses, it has many properties. All that I am going to give to the people, to the poor," he said. "Fogade must disappear."

Chavez will prove once again that a people cannot vote themselves into prosperity.

Absolute flaming Marxist. He will be dictator there for life...either willingly by the vote of the foolish masses beguilded by his lies...and to the absolute detriment of society as a whole there...or by decree at some point.

Lots of empty condos on Miami Beach and Brickell Avenue. Might not be empty for long.

Purges are next. Hope people get out quick.

Why did the military bother taking him out of power if they were just going to put him back in power to destroy their country from within?

Chavez just moved the Venezuelan equivalent of the FDIC to the toilet. This man is just a blithering idiot.

Good good! I'm enjoying this immensely. The world needs more examples of economies run into the toilet by socialists, so they can know what will happen if they do the same. Zimbabwe, Venezuela, the perennial Cuba, they're doing us all a huge favor, dontcha know. Chile, Brazil, and Columbia are starting to back away from this nut.

The truth doesn't matter to the left. Their heroes can fail all they want. They'll find some way to either blame it on W or totally ignore it.

...as well they should be as this guy cozzies up to IwannaMakeJihad in Iran and to China. it's clear that geo-political ties to our own detriment are being formed and one day they will lead to military pacts if we are not vigilant and do not take measures to prevent them.
Maybe a large truck will accidently back right in front of his speeding limo one day.
