Next target of smoking ban: casinos By ED SEALOVER THE GAZETTE March 27, 2007 - 12:29AM
DENVER - Colorado casinos, one of the last bastions for smokers since a statewide ban went into effect in 2006, might be losing their exemption after a years reprieve.
State senators voted 22-12 Monday in favor of a measure banning smoking at casinos in Cripple Creek, Central City and Black Hawk.
Casinos were granted an exemption from the ban in last years Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act, along with cigar bars, businesses of three employees or less that arent open to the public and the smoking lounge at the Denver International Airport

I wonder if these are indian casinos, or if they'll continue to be exempt?

Unlike what the proponents claimed when this whole thing started that NOW that non-smokers can go to the bar without smelling like or being subjected to smoke, then the businesses will really thrive....not the case as the neighborhood bars are going out of business

I heard that about all of the bars and restaurants in San Francisco a couple of years ago when we started this trend. Still have to make reservations at my favorite spots, I would have thought all of them would be out of business by now. You better watch out they are coming after your plastic sacks next. It is a cruel cruel world we live.

These are limited stakes gambling towns that were given back their gold/silver mining towns status back in the early 90s...not Indians

Don't underestimate the power of gambling, smoking bans here in my favorite casino hasn't stopped me plunking down a hundred in poker.

No, these aren't Indian casinos. Southern Colorado has one in Ignacio. NM has a lot.

Anyone have any idea why these smoking bans are crossing the nation. I'll never believe it's for health reasons. Something else is afoot

I used to like to go to the Brew Bros. pub in Reno, have a half-way decent beer or two, smoke a cigar and play video poker.
They took the poker out because of the ex-cals demanded no smoking anywhere near food. Last time I went the place was dead. In fact the entire casino complex was pretty empty.
You can still smoke on the casino floor but as soon as you step off the carpet, you have to put 'em out.
Talking to the people working, since the new smoking restrictions business is down. Now... a Indian casino near here (one of the few places you can smoke in California) decided that if our customers want no smoking, we'll put in a smoke free slots area. Seems they got it right.

That's probably why they're targeted.
In wisconsin, they're pushing for a smoking ban everywhere except indian casinos, which are big contributors to the dem governor.
