Failed radio mouth and Senatorial candidate from Minnesota , Al Franken, told David Letterman on the set of the "Late Show" that the USA should reconsider approving the Kyoto Protocols because the treaty is good for the economy -- Despite that the ruinous treaty was voted down by a unanimous Senate vote in 1997 for the very reason that it would harm the economy.
To a fawning audience and a rapt host, Franken attacked Bush over the treaty that was voted down before he ever got to office, saying "One of the dumbest things that this president has said -- and that is a high bar -- is that if we abided by the Kyoto agreement, it would be ruinous to our economy. The opposite is true."
Franken went on to claim that the Protocls are actually good for the economy because cities that have voluntarily adopted the Protocols are seeing that "the air and water is cleaner and high-tech jobs were being created."
With his simplistic one size fits all explanation, however, Franken did not elaborate upon how these isolated successes in scattered cities would translate to the entire nation nor did he discuss the fact that some cities might not be as effected by the economic restrictions as others.
Franken claimed that we need to focus heavily on renewable energies saying we need massive new government programs to create them, programs similar to the Apollo space programs of the 1960s.
"We need to do an Apollo project in renewable energy," he said in reference to the NASA program that sent men to the moon. "We need to have biofuels, we need wind.""We need wind" he says? He seems to give us plenty of that.
Franken also voiced support for troop withdraws from Iraq, an idea that would give insurgents and terrorists reason for hope of their own eventual success.
Franken also said he supports the setting of a timetable for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq in 2008. (Minn. Senator Norm)Coleman opposes a firm timetable for withdrawal, though he has criticized the Bush administration's strategy on the war.No news if, to be fair and balanced, David Letterman is going to give Senator Norm Coleman, Franken's opponent in the upcoming election, the same amount of time and opposition free attention that he gave Franken to come on the show and voice his positions.
I wouldn't hold my breath for that last one.
Sure ... Climate concerns have made a fortune for Al Gore.
Huh? The audience probably gobbled that up with nary a question in their feeble minds, and will regurgitate it verbatim at their next Global Warming Workshop/Roundtable/Offsite/....
And what cities might these be Al? I want names so I can verify your claims.
If brains were dynamite, Al Franken wouldn't have enough to blow his nose.
..would you follow this man in a fire emergency?
Geez, parallel universe.
Let him keep talking...he's going to have to answer for it now if he runs. That alone will be fun to watch.
It's very simple. You banish the dirty industries (and poor, unattractive and non-hip people) to other towns. Then you pat yourself on the back for being so non-polluting.
Of course, most of the people who do actual work in your town have to commute in, burning fuel all the way.
Example: Aspen.
EEEEEEEEEEwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!
There's an image I'll have to submit to a Brain Scrub to remove!
Must . . . . Resist . . . . The . . . Obvious . . . .
"So blow it out your ass, Al!!!"
(I knew I couldn't.)

If stupid were gasoline, you wouldn't want to smoke around him.
The treaty was not voted down in 1997. Clinton never sent the treaty for ratification!
There was a "sense of the Senate" vote against ratification that went 100% negative, so Clinton did not send the treaty or protocol or whichever for a vote.
He left things so that some future president could gather the required votes and send it in for a positive vote.
If Bush had sent it for ratification in his first term, it would likely have been voted down after much hilarious debate, and we'd never be troubled with it again.
The way things stand now, the next president and Senate could vote to ratify.
The global warming industry is not producing a tangable product that people consume. They are producing credits that will be bought by other companies that result in increased prices on their goods. The only thing the green-industry does for the economy is cause inflation.
I turned off the set when I heard freaky al was a guest. Dave ain't so funny anymore either. (ya, I know)
Last month, Al Gore said, "Emerging economies such as China are justified in holding back on fighting greenhouse gas emissions...". Even he knows it would be costly.
....and now some advice about running successful talk radio programs.
