To begin with, are you saying the NIV has made the message of the Bible more accessible to ordinary US Americans? Exactly!

>>...and furthermore fail to see that their celebration of gay rights, environmentalism and multiculturalism is suicidal in the long run.<<<
The three causes you mention all use the same tactics to bully the majority here in the U.S. into submission. They threaten and sue for stupid laws that give them much more than they need, and they cry "racism" every time someone challenges them on the least point. These groups are the tentacles, and feminism is the head. I believe that feminism and communism are just two sides of the same coin. Code Pink is the most obvious example, but the workings of the NEA and the college movement are much more insidious as they target our children. Just as with communism, the feminist seek to gain control of the minds of our children. The "Celeb" culture is another glaring example of the loss we are suffering when it comes to our young girls. Whorish behaviour and experimental lesbianism are both encouraged and marketed to girls as young as 7-8 yrs. old.
You are right about conservatism being largely about preservation. The rapid pace at which so many of our social mores and traditions have been cast aside is now slowing, people are starting to realize that they cannot simply go along anymore and that we need to get back to the "We the People" part of America which built this country and worked so well before the "fragments" held sway.
There are Gathering of Eagle threads here at this site, and in many places on the web. You won't see any of it in the MSM, particularly in your media. If you look at the pictures and video, you will see all sorts of American conservatives and libertarians who came out of their houses and marched in the Capital for our country.
The Vietnam Wall was the "line in the sand". The message is that we can correct our mistakes, and that we do not have to accept the anarchists' plan for a Communist America.
All different sorts of people turned out to show the world that "can do" spirit upon which we were founded. The problem now is trying to bypass the MSM, who refused to even acknowledge this truly inspiring event. That is where people like you come in:))...Gathering of Eagles, pass it on!

"Sweden is similar to the US in several ways"
I seem to remember reading that there are more Swedes in the US than in Sweden. Is that what causes the liberal problem in Minnesota?

Thank's a lot for those words, fellow FREEper!
Conservatism is by all means alive and kicking on both our magnificent continents and personally, I often feel that the air is getting easier to breathe day by day and that our finest hour is yet to come.
The world is, from many perspectives, an ugly place today, as we all know. But no one said life is meant to be easy. Safeguarding a culture and building a new future for generations to come IS and has always been a great task, a great challenge.
Best of regards from Conservative Europe to Conservatives and patriots of the United States of America!

I seem to remember reading that there are more Swedes in the US than in Sweden. Is that what causes the liberal problem in Minnesota? There are very many Swedes in Minnesota, but I believe the census breaks down to Germans and Norwegians having greater numbers. Actually, Chicago was the second largest Swedish city in the world (After Stockholm) for quite some time until Johnson's Great Society sent Chicago proper down the tubes in the 60's and 70's and they all left. (look up 'Andersonville')
Scandinavian culture has alway been more communitarian than individualistic and that influence still can be seen in Minnesota to a (decreasingly) limited extent. What I find notable is that the flavor of Liberalism in Minnesota is more a naive Liberalism than the malicious Liberalism that you see elsewhere. That sort of naive Liberalism can have some limited success as long as everyone is on the same page with their values and work ethic. But once social parasites start showing up, it breaks down rather quickly.
As time goes on, these distinctions are eroding. The advent mass media as well as the fading memories of the 'old country' are diminishing regional differences. Minnesota's 'naive Liberalism' as attracted a victim class of welfare migrants of it own and with their arrival, we are also seeing 'naive Liberalism' give way to the more malicious strain of the disease.
I think you can watch same effect happening in Sweden today. Sweden's immigration policies looks like they'll destroy the Swedish model. That model depends heavily upon a relatively homogeneous value system. A generation raised on welfare entitlements in combination with the Muslims are upsetting that apple cart in big way. It promises to be an interesting (albeit ugly) show.
