It must be a family thing, I swear. Their Moms and Dads, Grandmothers and Grandads all voted Democrat, so it must be ok to do. Even people who otherwise consider themselves moderate to conservative don't see any problem voting for Democrats. They've just come to believe the lie that Republicans don't care about poor people, only Democrats do.
I really confounded the young man who had done the gut-rehab on the condo that our #1 son bought last year. We were chatting about various and sundry things, and at one point, he looked at me and said, "You know, I'm really surprised. You're a Republican, but you sound so compassionate for those who are less fortunate." I told him not to believe everything the media says about Republicans because it's almost ALWAYS a lie, especially if he reads it in the NYT or the Boston Glob.
