Plame scraps UF visit as legal issues persist

Outed CIA officer Valerie Plame has canceled her April 11 visit to the University of Florida.

Plame, whose identity was revealed in a 2003 syndicated column by Robert Novak, canceled because she's still sorting out legal issues related to her upcoming book, according to Accent, the student-run speakers bureau that invited Plame.

"She's pretty much still testifying in front of Congress and trying to resolve some legal issues with her book," said Andrew Brown, chairman of Accent.

Plame testified before Congress early this month, and the scope of the testimony was heavily vetted in advance by CIA officials to ensure Plame didn't reveal national security secrets.

Plame's outing lay at the heart of a federal trial against I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the former chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney. Libby was convicted this month of lying to investigators about his role in leaking Plame's identity.

Accent, which is funded by student fees, planned to pay Plame $25,000 for her visit.

Plame is the wife of former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson, who penned a 2003 column for The New York Times that said the Bush administration had exaggerated the threat of Iraq's nuclear program in the buildup to the war.

Plame's identity was revealed shortly after Wilson made his claims, and Wilson contends the outing of his wife was an act of political retribution orchestrated by Bush administration officials.

Plame also canceled a speech at the University of Iowa this week, due to "pending legal issues," according to a statement by the university's lecture committee.

Plame and Wilson are now suing Libby and other top White House officials for revealing Plame's identity.

Upon cancellation, Wilson agreed to speak in his wife's place at Iowa.

"She was enthusiastic about speaking at University of Iowa but has been advised by her attorneys that she must first resolve certain pending legal issues arising from recent developments," a spokesman for Plame said in a University of Iowa news release. "She looks forward to addressing the University of Iowa community as soon as those legal issues have been resolved."

Plame's cancellation is the second speech canceled at UF in as many weeks. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry canceled a visit scheduled for last Friday, citing important votes in the Senate that day. Kerry and Plame have both said they will try to reschedule, according to Accent.

May she and SlimeyJoe spend every time of their book, movie deal $$ on their lawyers for the next 10 years. Maybe then, they'll move back to Joe's nests of thieves and tea drinkers in Niger and Gabon.

Such as the Libby trial revealing her lawsuit has no basis...

I have read in the last few days....that Waxman has had to write a letter to CIA honcho Hayden and get clarification of what Hayden meant when he told Waxman that Plame was "covert"...as Waxman bragged during the hearing.

Also...Sen. Kit Bond has said that she told them a different story during the Senate Intelligence Hearings...and THOSE notes are being investigated.

So......I think MS. PLAME has been told by her lawyer to clam up.

BTW...Did you see on Gibson's show (I LOVE Gibson's show)...that David Asman is having a special this weekend about the Sandy Burgler case??? (I love David Asman also)

Would it be so wrong to indulge my inclination to point and laugh - loudly???

Hope the legal bills eat up their ill-gotten $$$.

It must be really serial to make them walk away from $25K in speaker fees.

But Joe will bat clean-up to recoup some of the loss at the second gig.

Pathetic!

'sup with the Gators? Invites to Kerry and to Plame? I'm surprised AlGore isn't on the list - we could use the snow (it would soon melt and we need the rain - brush fire season is here). FReep potential there as well.

I thought these two scumbags, Valerie and Joe Plame, had their "fifteen minutes"?
I wish they would just go away.

Universities everywhere fall for leftists. It is the normal condiion where you have students who don't know sh!t from shinola *and* a bunch of professors who have been 'educated' beyond their intelligence...

IT seems intersting that two leftists would cancel. Is UF where they had that scandle with a radical Muslim professor a few years ago?

That (the Mulsim Professor) was USF, University of South Florida in Tampa; UF is University of Florida in Gainesville.

YES! I know about her discrepancies ... who's going to have a hearing with the Rats in charge? NO one, unless ... nope. Don't see it happening.

I'm SO glad Gibson and now Asman's keeping Burglar's name in the news .... I bet his family just dies ....GOOD!! .. that filthy, treasonous crook!
