White House withdraws ambassador nominee
Associated Press ^ | 28 March 2007 | SAM HANANEL

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Wednesday withdrew the ambassadorial nomination of businessman Sam Fox after Democrats denounced Fox for giving money to a controversial conservative group that undermined Sen. John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign.

Kerry, D-Mass., had criticized Fox because of a $50,000 contribution that Fox made in 2004 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Many Democrats blame the group for sinking Kerry's presidential hopes that year after it aired a series of controversial ads that impugned Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War.

"Sam Fox had every opportunity to disavow the politics of personal destruction and to embrace the truth," Kerry said Wednesday. "He chose not to. The White House made the right decision to withdraw the nomination. I hope this signals a new day in political discourse."

I used to think W had something up his sleeve and was going to pull something awesome on the Dems but I no longer think so.

I feel your pain... LOL. I too kept thinking he was really smart and was just laying in the weeds waiting for a good time to jump out and destroy the left... Now I am resigned to him just laying in the weeds. Thing is, I feel disappointed with myself for being fooled so badly.

Barney comments: "Look Dubya, I've stood by you on Iraq, and I've stood by you during the 2006 elections, but SON,...are we gonna cave everytime your friends get a little heat? Maybe its time for me to go to Crawford. My chew bone taste a little sour right now."

Kerry is a TRAITOR and a LIAR. So please do not call him a Senator he is a piece of scum that help kill hundreds of Americans.

Yep. This cave-in allows the Democrats & Media (same thing, really) to keep protraying the Swiftboat Vets and their actions as 'illegitimate'.

...disillusioned ?

How about disgusted, desperate, dejected, sick to my stomach?

Every day is like watching a puppy getting kicked over and over again and the poor thing comes running back just to get hit again.
Is he so weak or so stupid to believe that these bastards will ever stop kicking him because he comes back wagging his tail, trying to please them?

God, please give this country a true LEADER.

Could it be they knew the votes weren't there?

Possibly so lop sided with spineless Republicans who actually showed up to vote? ( I don't know this, just speculating)

Why feed the media with the dissent they crave?

Well gee, what is he supposed to do? Not a chance of getting the guy through. Just more dog and pony show hearings for the Dems.

I don't see this as a sign of weakness on the part of the President. Two things are vastly different from what they were just a couple of years ago. First, his party no longer controls the Senate where any nomination must be confirmed. Second, even when his party did control the Senate the other party had made it necessary to have 60 votes to confirm a nomination, not the majority ALWAYS needed since the beginning of our country.

Mr. Bush is simply being a realist. His party let a few of its own Senators shoot down any hope of returning the confirmation process to the process outlined by our founders. You can't blame Mr. Bush that Senators made the mistake of trusting those from the other side of the aisle.

As for the loss of control of the Senate in the first place, we have no one to thank but the host of Republicans who lost track of what the voters expect of them as conservatives.

President Bush is not without blame in this, his insistence on a 'new tone' sorta set his people up, but most of what were seeing right now is directly attributable to the GOP and how it lost its way!

Hmmmm....political horse-trading going on behind closed doors. Possible. Problem is Dubya's horse has been ridden hard, put of wet, still steaming, and then shot. And now he has his saddle in his hand with a "what now?" look on his face.

If I was him, I'd go down swinging.

and people tell me there's a difference between the Republican and Democrat party lol.

Sorry, I'm not seeing it with actions like this.

Or maybe it's just that the National Republican Leadership enjoys being a whipping boy for their democrat party Masters.
