The main reason Liberals loathe "300" so much is that the film glorifies the notion of defending yourself & nation and does not advocate raising everybody's taxes in 480 B.C. for HillaryCare.

I hope it is better than Sin City. Man, I had to watch that movie in 15 minute increments.

I saw "300" mostly because I was going with friends. Really violent, short on history, a lot of our kind of rhetoric, short on character development. The visuals were great.
I think the sad part is the departure from history. Within it's context it was enjoyable, but a missed opportunity to make a better film.

Good article. I wonder if Cinnamon Stillwell is related to General Stillwell?

I saw this with my 14 year-old boys last nite on an IMAX screen. We absolutely loved it. It was a film of selfless honor and duty, that free men choosing to die can overcome evil. But the best part was when one of my boys said, "Wow Dad, I bet the liberals don't like it." It came with no prompting from dear ol' Dad.

The wife and I went to see it without knowing it was adapted from a Comic book/graphic novel, not out of actual historical events - so naturally we left the theater shaking our heads saying what the heck was that? Now after learning more about the inspiration for the movie I am less critical of it. I still think they could of played down the blood a little. You don't have to slow-down blood flying through the air and then splattering it against the camera lens like it was some form of art.

I saw 300 last Saturday. It's not bad, but it's not great. A lot of action and violence, but almost no character development, and without character development I never had a stake in what happened to any of the Spartans. So instead of being the epic movie that it might have been, 300 became just one long, brutal, puppet show.

I thought Apocalypto was a MUCH better and more spell-binding movie, but 300 was good too. If you liked 300 and haven't seen Apoacalypto, get the movie!

I'm not sure why people keep making an issue on how bloody the movie was. If anything they probably restrained themselves. Wars exspecially back then were fought on a savage kill or be killed level.
One of the most bloody war movies I ever saw was the opening scene to "Saving Private Ryan" when the soldiers were storming Omaha beach. Afterwards I saw some real life survivors from Omaha beach being interviewed on the History channel and they were asked their opinion if the battle was really that bloody and they all replied it was much much worse.
I think a lot of Americans just don't understand how brutal some battles can be and I think that's part of the reason why our soldiers don't get the full respect they deserve. Men lose their heads, arms and legs in seconds of a battle, they see their friends die but have to keep it together long enough to finish the fight otherwise you join the dead.

I went and saw the film this weekend and I just don’t understand all the commotion pro or con. From the hype I thought it must be the next Gladiator and boy, was I in for a let down. It’s a crappy movie, period.
