Lets settle this once and for all...
Having done actual research on this subject to get to the truth, Ive concluded that Sen. Thompson a) is, and has always been, opposed to the notion of a constitutional right to an abortion; b) is, and has always been, in favor of banning partial-birth abortion; c) is, and has always been, in favor of restrictions on most later-term abortions (post-first trimester); and d) is now across-the-board pro-life, but in the 1990s, was in favor of earlier-term abortions (first-trimester) remaining legal...
If you pick up the 1994 post-election edition of National Right to Life news, youll see a list of pro-life Senators elected in the class of 94. Thomspon was on the list, with a cross by it.
The cross stood for Thompsons support for legal 1st Trimester abortion. He was generally pro-life, but supported abortion during the 1st trimester...
As such, Thompsons voting record is consistent with his 1994 position: hes pro-life on everything other than making first-trimester abortions illegal...
What seems to be clear is that Thompson has never supported the constitutional right to an abortion, has never supported partial-birth abortion, and has never been opposed to restrictions on post-first-trimester abortions. Further, Thompsons opposition to Roe means that hed have no problem with states prohibiting or regulating first-trimester abortions. Thompson has only parted with pro-lifers on first-trimester abortions, a stance that a) may have since changed over the past decade and that b) is moot for all practical purposes, as sufficient political support for banning these abortions at the federal level just doesnt exist regardless of what the Supreme Court does.

I call it buying votes with unnecessary spending outside the scope of what the Federal Government should be doing.
Do you also disagree with the wall Hunter has built on the border?
You may want to also contemplate a thing called "math", Hildy.
Not in any way. A major plus for Hunter.
My point is, any candidate you can think of has at least some flaws. I like Hunter. He's a good man, great on most issues but weak on fiscal and government efficiency issues. I like Thompson. Acceptable on social issues, good on fiscal, and worth listening to on immigration, but not the kind of hardliner some of us would like.
The overall assessment: I think in this environment, Thompson has a better shot at winning while still being conservative enough to swallow, unlike Rudy.
Hunter, for all his good and bad points, just can't raise the cash he's gonna need to win.
You say that, but there is no proof of it. If that was true, we would have Roe v. Wade overturned and SD would have its abortion ban. The polls say that people don't like it, they wish there was less of it, but the DON'T WANT IT OUTLAWED. So the numbers back me up, not you.
I'm sure that means something in your world.
"Math", Hildy.
One of those numbers is larger than the other, but the comparison is not "ridiculous."
?
"I still have a hard time believing this is the most important issue to alot of you."
Some self-righteous jerks are always trying to impose their morals on others. Really, who gets freaked out over this other than religious wing nuts? Choice only affects about 4,000 clumps of tissue a day. And what do the wing nuts think women are, chopped liver? These dangerous chauvanists are trying to control women's bodies and force their religion on us.
Jeesh, they ought to ship all the fanatics off to an island somewhere so everyone else can choose what's right for them in peace.
They're just people. What's the big deal?
Oh, wait, I take that back. If we lose the WOT and Sharia law is enacted, you'll get your wish to rid this country of abortions and your longing for gays to go away will come true. They'll go away alright...maybe some of you can do the beheading, judging by how much you hate them yourselves.
Acolyte of Molech
Nice try at invoking the Nazi rule. I never called you a Nazi, twit. I was just comparing 55 million abortions to the carnage caused by Hitler to give the proper perspective to the abortion issue that you tried to gloss over.
As many children are aborted each day in this country as adults were killed on 9-11. Yet abortion to Rudy boosters such as hildy isn't as big a deal as fighting Islamist terrorists.
"The leader of your prayer group is for same sex marriage?"
I did say almost. <;)
Actually, he is our former prayer group leader as he moved to another city. He made his comment some time ago, before the same sex marriage issue came to the forefront. He was talking more about socio-economic issues, like labor laws, minimum wage, great society programs. He was a great admirerer of Hubert Humphrey and other Democrats of the pre-Roe vs. Wade era. Like Ronald Reagan, he is a democrat with a small d, who didn't leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left him.
RockinRight, you made a valid point about the 2006 elections. There were several pro-life, anti-gay marriage, socialist Democrats elected.
The killing of life is always important. At conception it is life and you have to kill it to get rid of it. If you don't kill it guess what it will become.
Me too. I guess they didn't read the jihadi sites this morning.
Technology, i.e. 5th Gen ultrasound, will solve the abortion problem. Let it do it's magic.
NO flames, I am as pro-life as the next, just realize we have much more pressing problems now.
