The GOP pretty much played this card in 2006, and we fell flat on our ass in the elections. I don't believe this type of ad has what it takes to sway people these days, unfortunately.

Either you believe the message of the ad is correct or not. Whether or not the public embraces the message at a given time doesn't negate the need to spread the message.
Reagan wouldn't have wavered from warning of the threat of communism and his commitment to kick ass if the polls went south on him.
This shouldn't be about winning elections - it should be about winning a WAR. We know the consequence if we fail in the war on terrorism... it's another 9/11 but on a worse level.

Besides, any ad that portrays Cindy Sheehan and Martin Sheen in an unflattering light is a good thing :)

As justification for standing firm against Communism, the domino theory that was described in the 60's did not work either.
It is actually embarrassing that anything so patently obvious needs to be overtly spelled out. That said, I never decided if the cold hard logic was beyond Liberal thinking or if they were just plum dumb. Nothing has changed since that time, even in view of the fact that we DID stop Communism in its tracks. The Pacific countries and Indonesia are explosions of capitalist activity for which they can thank the US policy against Communist aggression in Viet Nam and Korea. It DID work.

"We could have 10 cities nuked and it wouldn't change most libs minds about anything." You're right, they'd blame Republicans for provoking nuclear war.

Either you believe the message of the ad is correct or not. Well, you can believe the message in the ad is correct and still trust the dems more than the GOP to wage the next war. This isn't sticking right now, for a variety of reasons. I saw a national poll yesterday that said that 47% of Americans wouldn't support military action against Iran even if they were closing in on getting a nuclear weapon.
Too much of the electorate just doesn't trust our officials to wage a war successfully. That's true if they believe the message or the ad or not.

I don't dispute your post or the points within in, I guess my point back to you is the original point I made: it doesn't matter whether the message is being accepted by the public, that doesn't change the fact that it still must be delivered.
I don't know if you are pro-life, but I am, and I've seen the pendulum go back and forth with the basic sentiment over abortion. Never did the importance of explaining why abortion was wrong and was the taking of an innocent human life diminish even though the PR war and battle for hearts and minds didn't always go so well.
It made me feel quite good to see years later (and I'm only 33) that we had indeed progressed, to the point that partial birth abortions and abortions for gender selection, etc... are considered taboo and the skyrocketing rise in the number of annual abortions abated.
So too do I believe that we must persevere in spite of the public's waning trust of an aggressive pursuit in the war on terrorism. It may not strike a chord today as well as it did 5 1/2 years ago, but the importance in my mind is no less diminished today than it was then.

I think it's more important to persuade, and this ad doesn't do it.

If that happened, the media and the libs would blame Bush and say he angered the "world" so much that we "had it coming". That idea is still out there today, that we "deserved" what we got on 9-11, and it isn't just nut cases like Ward Churchill saying it.

I agree with the tenor of some of the posts that liberals will not be persuaded until the day they are having their throats slit by some Jihadist in America.
The goal of the ad, however, is to reach the majority center-right in America that wants to do the right thing. The White House has been horrible at communicating any message, let alone an effective one.
It is incumbent on all of us to spread the word far and wide to make up for the biased MSM coverage.
Every ad has a constituency, and this ad will help wake some people up. Undoubtedly, a different ad would appeal to another group of Americans. The fact remains that we as conservatives have to do everything we can to spread the message.

"I think it's more important to persuade, and this ad doesn't do it." And you can guess what my response is going to be :)
I can't wait to see YOUR AD posted here and I will be happy to chime in on it as well!!
It's easy to say something else should be done, but it's more impressive to see someone actually do it.

A liberal told me that we would all be better off if Israel was nuked out of existence. Liberalism has to be a sickness. It is definately a disease no one in his right mind would want.
