Day of Truth approaches for high school students
Alliance Defense Fund ^ | March 26, 2007

ADF sponsors third annual opportunity for students to express Christian viewpoint on homosexual behavior; enrollment already up 32 percent.

Christian students at high schools nationwide will have the opportunity to participate April 19 in the “Day of Truth,” designed to provide students a platform to counter the promotion of the homosexual agenda and peacefully express an opposing viewpoint from a Christian perspective. Enrollment currently is up approximately 32 percent over last year.

“Christian students should be allowed to express their viewpoint just like any other student. The Day of Truth is an opportunity for Christian students to respectfully present a different viewpoint than students participating in the Day of Silence,” said Joe Infranco, senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, which is sponsoring the event and offering assistance to students who initiate it at their schools. “Silence doesn’t teach anyone anything. An open, honest, and respectful discussion, however, allows truth to rise to the surface.”

The Day of Truth will be held on the day after the Day of Silence, an event promoted by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which asks students to remain silent for an entire day to express their approval of the homosexual agenda.

In 2005, ADF launched the Day of Truth as a peaceful, nationwide, student-led event, and in 2006 more than 2,800 students from more than 800 schools across the country participated in the event. So far this year, 3,691 high school students have registered for the Day of Truth.

“The First Amendment allows for open discussion,” Infranco explained. “Allowing students to have a Day of Silence without allowing students to have a Day of Truth limits free speech and the free exchange of ideas. Limiting the free exchange of ideas limits our ability to make good decisions.”

And that's why it's a good idea for students to be prepared for the kinds of questions they're likely to face and to know what their rights are.

Good job

Let's get the word out to all high school students we know:

"I am speaking the Truth to break the silence. Silence isn’t freedom. It’s a constraint. Truth tolerates open discussion, because the Truth emerges when healthy discourse is allowed. By proclaiming the Truth in love, hurts will be halted, hearts will be healed, and lives will be saved."
