Play along with me this morning. Would you vote for the following candidate? This person supports parental notification laws and a ban on partial birth abortion; is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and believes mariage is between a man and a woman. Don't look any further. In your mind, does this candidate seem attractive? Yes or No?
Guess what. That's how Rudy Giuliani describes himself. If you go to his website, that's how he lays out his positions on three very sensitive topics. What about this bleeding heart socially liberal Republican. As you might imagine, it is nowhere to be found on his website. The Brody File has pulled the three parapgraphs from his website that lay out his position on abortion, guns and marriage.
Abortion:
"Rudy Giuliani supports reasonable restrictions on abortion such as parental notification with a judicial bypass and a ban on partial birth abortion except when the life of the mother is at stake. Hes proud that adoptions increased 66% while abortions decreased over 16% in New York City when he was Mayor. But Rudy understands that this is a deeply personal moral dilemma, and people of good conscience can disagree respectfully. Ultimately he believes that it is a decision between a woman, her doctor, her family, and her God."
Guns:
"Rudy Giuliani is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. When he was Mayor of a city suffering an average of almost 2000 murders a year, he protected people by getting illegal handguns out of the hands of criminals. As a result, shootings fell by 72% and the murder rate was cut by two-thirds. But Rudy understands that what works in New York doesnt necessarily work in Mississippi or Montana."
Marriage:
"Rudy Giuliani believes marriage is between a man and a woman. He does not - and has never - supported gay marriage. But he believes in equal rights under law for all Americans. That's why he supports domestic partnerships that provide stability for committed partners in important legal and personal matters, while preserving the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman."
If you were an Evangelical who just stepped onto this Earth from Planet Pluto (oh wait, sorry, Pluto is no longer a Planet. I thought scientists were "always" right?), after reading that, you may not understand why a large segment of Evangelicals may have a problem with Rudy. But the religious conservatives who live here on Earth might think those paragraphs on his website are just a tad bit disengenous. Actually, now that I think of it, I'm sure others have a much different word for it. Does the way he portrays himself on his website bother you or do you just chalk it up to political spin just like every other candidate out there? Comments?
I thought the difference was that Hillary has more Testosterone then Rudy. I know they have both bedded roughly the same amount of women.
Ah, cuz ya'll are the ones who get to define "true conservatives", eh?
:-D
I could be mistaken, but I don't believe JimRob intends this site to be someplace that kicks out 'political' conservatives who aren't social conservatives.
Y'see, that's one solution to your silly "only true conservative" game. In place of 'conservative' say 'social conservative'.
When you say "Rudy isn't a conservative", instead say "Rudy isn't a social conservative". THEN you'd finally be right.
Now *that* is how to debate against Rudy, if you can make that charge stick.
I've read other stats that seem to disagree with your post, but I'll let one of the Rudy folks duel. Me, I'm willing to go Rudy as a fall-back plan, in the General, but I'm still a Newt man, until things are settled.
But this "Rudy is a liberal cuz of guns/gays/abortion" line is killing ya'll. You mean he's not a "social" conservative. That doesn't mean isn't politically conservative.
One has only to read FR posts see the disdain and contempt with which the Rudy Tooters hold pro-life, pro-family social conservatives.
On his way up the political ladder, Rudy was endorsed by the Liberal Party. Every chance he got Rudy stomped on conservatives, and conservative values, preferring to cozy up to NARAL, Planned Parenthood, NAMBLA, gayders, all the liberal types.
Now with the presidential itch in his belly, he figured out he actually needs conservatives.
Too bad Rudeo didn't heed the wise admonition: "Be careful who you step on, on the way up, b/c you are going to meet them on the way down.
At my age, I would love to get back time that has passed, but let's leave that to science fiction. (You can tell the difference, I hope). Also note that we have cities in the Midwest. Mine happens to be Chicago (MSA = 7+ million). One thing schooling and good old Midwest experience has taught me is that there is little point in trying to reason with people who cannot reason, much less define the word.
Finally, I prefer a single malt Islay Scotch to beer. If Hillary loses (to ANY Republican POTUS candidate) I will splurge on a bottle of Lagavulin. If Hillary wins (against any candidate you don't fully approve of) you owe me a case of Lagavulin so I can drown my sorrows and prepare for the onslaught. That will be a very small price to pay for your ignorance and moral vanity.
You're just mistaken by that. If your flavor of conservatism doesn't allow for his views, that's fine and all. He's not a social conservative. We'd all agree, and we can move on.
But he *does* reflect at least one brand of 'conservatism' to my eyes. Which means he can accurately be described as a conservative.
And the "only true conservatives" crowd who likes to call anyone who doesn't agree with them a name like "traterous liberal" isn't doing his cause any good.
Let me see if I get this. Rudy speaks to NARAL. Hillary speaks to NARAL. Ergo, Rudy = Hillary. I suggest you go back to your eigth grade math teacher for a refresher in basic logic.
Nope. Rudy speaks to NARAL. Rudy <> conservative.
Clearly, you need to lay off the booze. Posting while drunk is NOT a good idea!
Rudy raises money for militant-gay anti-war groups, but he is going to be good on the WOT. Hmmm. I don't get it.
LOL!
"I haven't decided whether I would vote for Rudy or join the Hari Krishnas"
ROTFLMBO!
""You can't win by running against someone. You have to win by being FOR something - such as conservartive values."
Amen brother, preach it loud, preach it long and preach it OFTEN!"
B U M P
Rudy has 3 or 4 positions that can be construed as conservative. The other 80% of his profile fits well on the far left of the democratic party.
He has not been indifferent to this 80%, he has been a cheerleader and proponent, just as he was a proponent for cleaning out the sewer of criminals in NYC. He was just as animated a supporter of the queer agenda. Just as animated when it came to his anti-constitutional stands on the 2nd Amendment. Just as animated and determined to extort the Tobacco companies like the rest fo the libs suing them. Just as animated and declarative in his opposition to ANY abortion restrictions. Just as animated and determined to break federal law and give illegals a run of the city.
Your position is preposterous.
"Social conservative", you mean.
Political conservatives don't have any problem with gays. We can be pro-choice. Many seem to like 'open borders'.
And on the gun thing, we think it's ok to disagree on one major issue. I believe there is no reason to suspect that he'd grab our guns. I don't thin he's that stupid.
So Rudy is a political conservative. Yet you 'socials' are saying he's a liberal cuz he doesn't agree with you on social issues.
That seriously damages your political position, if you see what I meaan.
New slogans:
"Vote for Rudy.......the GOP is already splintered......let's finish it off......lets get it over with!!"
"Vote for Rudy.....he ain't Hillary"
"Vote for Rudy.....he is NOT the anti-Christ"
"Vote for Rudy.....he will grab your gun, and flood the country with illegals, but he probably will not raise taxes"
""Social conservative", you mean."
Anti-gunner
Pro Illegal Alien
By default of the second one, not very strong on National Security.
How is that "social conservatism"?
Clearly, Rudeo CAN'T meet even the most lenient conservative test. But he's got the presidential itch in his belly and he's belatedly figured out he needs conservatives to make a primary showing.
Enter Rudeo the con artist. No, he's not selling land in the Arizona desert, or "real" zirconium diamonds......Rudeo's game is conning conservatives into thinking THEY ARE NOT real conservatives; HE IS THE REAL CONSERVATIVE.
ROTFLMBO.
President? They oughta jail this guy Rudeo for ID theft---for posing a a human being.
