People ask me who I'm supporting for president in 2008.
That's easy. As always, I'm supporting the guy who doesn't have a chance in hell of winning.
That would be Ron Paul. Paul is a Republican congressman from Texas. He is noteworthy for being the only member of Congress from either party who actually believes the words in the Constitution have meaning. He therefore votes against almost everything. Paul is a medical doctor, so this habit has won him the nickname "Doctor No."
Paul recently announced that he is entering the GOP primary for the 2008 presidential nomination. I hereby offer my endorsement, for what that's worth.
My reasoning is simple. All I ask of the two-party system is that it give the voter a choice. Ron Paul does. The rest of the GOP field doesn't. How do Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney differ from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on the Iraq war? On immigration amnesty? On Social Security? On Medicare?
Dr. No is different. I had a nice chat with him the other day on the phone. I asked a simple question: "Virtually everything the federal government does is unconstitutional, isn't it?"
"Basically, that's pretty true," Paul replied.
Indeed it is. But you won't find anyone else saying it. The other major candidates desire merely to tinker with "the welfare-warfare state," as Paul terms it. He wants to dismantle it in the name of liberty.

The author, Paul Mulshine, is what passes for a "token conservative" here in the Democratic People's Republic of New Jersey (DPRNJ).
On the off chance that he reads this or is tipped off, I still like you Paul. Just be happy that your op-ed piece made it onto FR.
I don't know much about Ron Paul, but much like others, I'm still in the information gathering phase. Reading some past FR posts, I think I know a few people who can help us get to know him better. Does he have any cash hidden in his freezer?? I don't know.
(((((Hopeless candidate who makes some sense PING???!!!!))))
The interesting thing about RP, is that he gets most of his contributions from outside of Texas.
No.
He has some good points. I'm supporting Duncan Hunter though.
Mickey Mouse always gets a lot of votes every election even though he don't make the official announcement of candidacy. so there is hope for any wannabe.
"No"
Well I suppose you don't have much of a future as a cable news talking head or political pundit.
That doesn't make you a bad person. Would you care to elaborate please. There are actually some people who are listening.
It was an answer to the headline.
Get it?
Hey pal, watch what you say about Mickey! I'm an informed voter and I voted for him in the NJ Senate election in November. He was a better choice than Tom Kean (Giant Douche) and Bob Menendez (Turd Sandwich).
Great South Park episode BTW. It's a long story, but EveningStar would appreciate it.
At least Mickey has proven himself reliable over the years.
Few others can claim that honor.
All you need to know: He votes with the Dims on Iraq.
You stole my line ! :-P
Libertarian ping! To be added or removed from my ping list freepmail me or post a message here.
I don't agree with him on foreign policy and isolationism. I'm what was called on the political idealogy quizzes "a libertarian leaning Conservative".
I suppose I'd be a full blown Libertarian (with a capital L) if weren't for the fact that:
* I believe in a strong military
* I'm pro-life (no bigger example of Big Govt than Gubmint sanctioning the killing of innocent infants)
* I'm opposed to open borders and future Mexican welfare recipients marching in here to get their hands on entitlement programs funded by my tax dollar
I'd like to hear what other people have to say. Everyone already knows where I stand. (just humor me and pretend you care what I think)
There is no doubt that the Gubmint takes our money with one hand and our freedoms with the other.
If people aren't disgusted by the whole thing, they are not paying attention. Frankly, I was a much happier person when I wasn't paying attention.
Maybe the sheeple out there who don't follow politics have the right idea.
Ron Paul is a pro-life libertarian, but I'm supporting Duncan Hunter because Hunter is a pro-life CONSERVATIVE, who even spoke at the pro-life march in Washington, D.C.
There are other pro-lifers running for president, but I support Hunter because he represents most of my other views, as well.
How about we let Hunter, Paul, Newt, and Rudy be President by committee with an FR line item veto on the positions we don't like?
There's our candidate!
