Donating bone marrow is not without consequence. The pain is just the start. I know a donor that spent about 6 months fighting all sorts of issues, some of which was because of the anesthesia, others included ongoing pain and pneumonia that nearly killed him.

Yeh, but was it worth it?
I have donated bone marrow twice. Both times to the same patient, although I do not know who he is. I know he was 19 the first time, and 22 the second time. There was no general anesthesia, just a local. I had a little pain for about 24 hours after the procedure. They gave me some good drugs though. Then for about 2 weeks, if I turned the wrong way or stood up too fast, I would have a little pain. that was it. Piece of cake. It also feels really good to do something that has the potential to help someone. I highly recommend that everyone get put on a bone marrow donation registry and donate if given the opportunity. It is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.
I was wondering if this is a clean cut sure thing treatment or not. Could it be the sister has a health issues she does not want to bring out.
My sister had Hodgkins Lymphoma, and had to have her bone marrow tested. She said it was excruciating. What I don't understand is.......why the hell didn't they put her out. The dentist put me out to extract teeth!
I donated stem cells for my sister and it was fairly painless and took about 5 hours. Unfortunately it didn't help, she died 3years ago.
