Yes, Thompson has portrayed strong executive leadership in his acting roles, but what reason do we have to believe that he will exhibit the same qualities in real life? Unlike Reagan, to whom he sometimes is compared, Thompson has never led a major labor organization, never served as governor, and never been considered one of the leaders of the conservative movement in this country.

The author of this piece asks, Is Fred Thompson presidential material? He is not convinced.

Having just heard Thompson subbing for Paul Harvey, I'd have to agree that he doesn't have the intellect of Reagan. Still looking.

But then again, Ronald Reagan was no Fred Thompson.
Blame it on their parents!

So, what qualifies the Democratic candidates? The she-devil, the closet Muslim, and the little princess have never held any executive positions.

To: Logic n' Reason
I would vote for him simply because he is not from NY or has ever made a lame attempt to represent NY.

To: RepublicanPatriot
he is head and shoulders and anything else you can think of, over Rudy.

I fear people are mixing up the Fred Thompson Law and Order person from the real thing. We really don't know enough about this man to jump on the bandwagon.

Let's look at a january 4th column by By Steven M. Warshawsky

 http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/01/bringing_conservatism_back_to.html

" If you doubt that Hillary is a radical leftist, that just shows how far the nation's political center has shifted. Similarly, which Republican candidate probably has the best chance of beating her? Rudy Giuliani. I like Giuliani. As of today, I would support him for president over any of the other likely Republican candidates (for many of the reasons highlighted by Richard Brookhiser here and here). But I will be the first to admit that Giuliani is not a principled conservative. However, a principled conservative (from either a libertarian or social conservative perspective) cannot win the presidency in 2008. Query whether a candidate who ran on Ronald Reagan's 1980 platform could win today? I am doubtful. "

Wow, A giuliani backer going after fred thompson. Who woulda thunk that?

The she-devil has had plenty of experience making The Mob jealous. Hitlery would rule like a
Dictator. Executive Orders, threats, intimidation, etc. would be her way.

I'm for Rudy. But just in case Rudy does not play it is very wise to see him get contested so he flops in the primaries and not the general election. I too doubt that Fred is quite the man for the job but next to Rudy he is probably as good as they come until Jindal is ready in 8 years.

He's a lightweight, IMO. Its a shame we're in such a desperate position, but I guess thats the way the cookie crumbled.

    I'm shocked. /sarc
I listened to Giuliani a bit this morning on Dennis Miller, and he just rambled on and on about the WoT. Maybe its Dennis' problem for not keeping Giuliani terse and to the point. But nothing about his interview this morning screamed Presidential to me.

The article is dead on. Ronald Reagan did not sit back in his easy chair and basically posture in the hope that conservatives would elevate him to power. The fact that Fred Thompson is, is indicative of Thomson's lack of administrative experience. Reagan quit his day job in 1976 after losing the nomination to Ford, and campaigned relentlessly for four years, educating the public on the value of conservatism and refusing to give in. Contrast that with Thompson.
I have news for Mr. Thompson. Political power is not something that anyone, even rabid, politically unrealistic Freepers, is going to hand you. Political power is something you go out and earn.
Giuliani has been out there for the last several years laying the groundwork and it shows. By the time he is done, he will have earned the nomination. Even the hardest right of conservatives will respect his work ethic.

 So?
and never been considered one of the leaders of the conservative movement in this country.
Well yes, but unfortunetly they all turned tail on us the last 6 years and became big spending liberals, so, we have to make do with what we have.
