The city government of Hazleton, Pa., got in trouble when it passed a law intended to drive out illegal immigrants. The American Civil Liberties Union sued to overturn the ordinance, arguing that it is the proper task of the federal government, not municipalities, to enforce immigration laws. But when good remedies are absent, it's no surprise to see bad ones emerge.

I am sick to death of hearing stuff like, "The critics of this ordinance are right to note that it's the federal government that should enforce immigration laws," and that only the federal government can enforce the law. The federal government forces state and local governments to enforce federal law all the time. For instance, you've built a house and need a permit from the city to occupy that house. You cannot get that permit unless the toilets in that house meet the federal requirement for water consumption. The city, in other words, is enforcing the federal law. You never hear any complaints about local police enforcing the federal law against bank robbery. There are hundreds of other examples of this. We need to quit buying into this argument.

The not so "hidden" cost of illegal immigration.
They do the same thing here. Sis in law lives right behind the local 90% hispanic high school. When the 'kids' get out of school and are walking home they will not move out of the street. They will walk 12 at a time shoulder to shoulder down the street. Sis in law has had to actually stop in the middle of the road and wait til the horde splits to go around them. As the 'kids' pass the whiteys in the truck they sneer and make disparaging remarks.
That is why I found this story fascinating.
When the cowardly feds no longer have the cajones to defend the the nation, its up to the citizens to defend themselves. No one enters MY house without an invitation, no one decides what goes on in our community without the consent of the citizens. The ACLU can, as always, GO STUFF THEMSELVES!
Who are people kidding; the feds have taken over. As for the ACLU, are they even legal?
I saw similar behavior in downtown Redwood City (CA) back in the early 90's. A bunch of hispanic kids wanted to cross the street, and they waited until the light was AGAINST them to take to the crosswalk. The motorists were not amused.

It's happened and it's insidious. Look around next time you're in a supermarket. Half the shoppers are talking on their cell phones in some foreign lingo. Like most of these distressing trends we will never live to see how it turns out. The American Indian is the model - they should have never allowed immigration. Here's the problem through my layman's eyes. I decided to see what I could find on the ACLU's claim that only the feds can enforce the law. Unfortunately I found the following in the 1986 law, which supersedes the 1976 law on which Hazelton relied.
Section 1324a does not preempt "licensing or similar laws" which is the path Hazleton chose.
In addition: the US Constitution requires:
Article [IX.] The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
Article [X.] The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
On this crucial national security issue, President Bush is stone deaf.
Judge Munley is a Democrat liberal (redundant) who will overturn Hazleton's laws. That was a given from the start.
What is in question is whether Hazleton will have the will and the resources ($$$) to continue the fight at the next level.

That's what I just tried to say... that my guess is that the licensing part of the Hazelton law would stand but the fines part wouldnt.
Looks like it's time to dust off the snow plow blades and put 'em to good use! Here in northwest Illinois, we have our own fair share of illegals, but I've yet to come upon a horde of 'em walking down the middle of the street. Then again, I don't typically drive in and around hispanic neighborhoods or schools. But I have come across black kids walking down the middle of the street, or crossing the street slowly as I bear down on 'em. When I was their age, I respected the hell out of authority *and* the traffic. LOL! Living in an area with an increasingly growing minority population, mixed with a county (Rock Island) that's nearly a hundred percent liberal Democrat, and you have yourself a community that Jesse HiJackson and Al Sharptongue would feel right at home in. Outside of Cook County, you won't find a more liberal county in Illinois (or the country, for that matter).
Thanks to the socialist, liberal politicos, low income housing is sprouting up all over the area, which breeds crime and the wonderful sounds of low frequency bass tones. Here in Milan, our wonderful liberal Democrat mayor OK'd the building of an apartment complex less than a block from where I live. Four or five years after its completion, one person has been murdered in the parking lot due to a drug deal gone bad (over a year ago), and a child molester arrested for doing the obvious to a child who lives there. I've heard sirens coming from that direction as well, so who knows what else has gone on over there. If that isn't enough, we're treated to wonderful bass frequencies on a daily/nightly basis. BUT, to be fair, the idiot neighbors next door (who are white, BTW) love to play that rap garbage as well. Makes me wanna move to Montana and become the attention of the ATF and FBI. LOL!
Dang sounds like you live in sis in law's neighborhood......in California. They built apartments on the other side of a church soccer field directly behind their house. The apartments are full of hispanics. Their house has been broken into twice now, once in broad daylight while they were home! They have gangbangers coming over their back fence now and have spent tons of money on security lights. Their place looks like a Walmart parking lot at night.
You people back there don't realize how brazen the illegal and legal hispanics are here. They are untouchable here and they know it.
Holy cow! Well it's not nearly that bad here, sheana. Well, not yet, anyway. For the most part, I'd say the people who live in the "Village Woods" apartment complex are decent people. I live on a cul-de-sac, and there are two rows of houses that block the view of the apartments, thank goodness. This neighborhood (lower-middle class) is forty years old now, and as far as I know, there are very few houses that have ever been broken into. It has always been a pretty safe neighborhood, but who knows for how long it will remain, thanks to the liberal, socialistic ideology of multiculturalism.
